Alex Lanstein @lanstein.bsky.social · 30/09/2026great work by Eamon to tell the story of run-of-the-mill chinese espionage against the federal reserve. a decade of effort to gather information that is useful, but usually not anything even close to "top secret". 112

Alex Lanstein @lanstein.bsky.social · 26/09/2026The strangest part about sports gambling ruining a generation of young men, is that even the founder of fan duel got screwed by fan duel and made absolutely zero dollars. Thanks kkr! 000
Alex Lanstein @lanstein.bsky.social · 24/09/2026For a second I forgot that our ambassador to NATO was a toilet salesman for men who believe they are too well endowed for a normal toilet. 020
Alex Lanstein @lanstein.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I once got stuck at that KEF airport in a similar situation, and left passport control but with no where to go. They absolutely do not let you sleep in the airport and to enforce it they have a guy with a pokey stick who stabs you if you close your eyes for even a few seconds, sitting or standing. 112067
Alex Lanstein @lanstein.bsky.social · 22/09/2026i dont understand how microsoft reports privately that they have a sentinel outage, and publicly that things are green in the same region 000

Alex Lanstein @lanstein.bsky.social · 20/09/2026My town in Massachusetts had seen an explosion of kids going to these schools. It started with covid but now the kids come back and talk about the parties/football/weather and all of a sudden bowdoin and union and conn college don't look so hot. 021

Alex Lanstein @lanstein.bsky.social · 18/09/2026It's the Uber and airbnb approach. Do illegal activity enough that you get big enough to rewrite the rules (except in certain small munis). Will it work for ai companies blatantly stealing copyrighted material? Seems that way. 010
Alex Lanstein @lanstein.bsky.social · 18/09/2026You can abstract this to all crypto currencies. "I bought a utility-less token and hope that some day someone invents a utility that isnt just to enable criminals" 000

Alex Lanstein @lanstein.bsky.social · 13/09/2026My explanation perhaps reads as some greedy x did greedy y. But no. Gigantic financial gives away shit loads to medical research who does amazing work, and then it sells that work to do more amazing science. 000
Alex Lanstein @lanstein.bsky.social · 13/09/2026There is this very large private investment company called "American century advisors". They donate 40% of all their profits to medical research through the "stowers foundation". Stowers discovered sclerostin which impairs bone growth, and they licensed it to Amgen which made evenity. 100

Alex Lanstein @lanstein.bsky.social · 10/09/2026There's also apparently no oversight, which leads to more intentional and unintentional abuse. If you abuse a government system you will be caught and punished, and (eventually) it will be reported to congress. 000

Alex Lanstein @lanstein.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Models two years ago were 1). Models today are 2). We spent a trillion dollars to make a tool that is way way better at SQL than I am. Will that be better for society in 10 years? I have literally no idea. 141
