Question for #slpeeps Can SLPs diagnose dyslexia? I’m comfortable diagnosing a literacy disorder but tend to feel that dyslexia should be a team approach.

Next up on my reading list… Is there a difference between andragogy and pedagogy? As I teach Language Development this semester, I see so many parallels between the cognitive processes of children and adults….so I’m a bit skeptical. Would love to know your thoughts…

My 1st role as a SLP CE was in Australia where I supervised 3rd yr undergrads who demonstrated strong clinical skills. Now I work in the US where the CSD curriculum is so broad in scope, it sometimes feels like the combined undergrad (4 yrs) and grad (2 yrs) is not enough time.

I listened to the episode as well and shared it with several of my US colleagues. My question after the episode was: Should we be training our SLP/SLT students to do research like systematic reviews to help make a stronger clinic to academic connection?

What a great idea! One of my clinical students uses AI to create complex sentences for her client with DLD. I asked Copilot to create a nonfiction rdg passage on a 4th grade level using multiple r-controlled words and it was pretty spot on. It’s a great way for us to work at the top of our license.

Not to be a stickler…but shouldn’t we be precise with our language? Research in aphasia and cognitive science shows that this is not how the brain works. It may be slightly misleading…but it’s still misleading.

The goal for clinical ed (& learning in general)is that we continue to increase the difficulty level for the student which would require more direct support temporarily. So we should be moving back and forth on the continuum as learning increases. Would love to hear your thoughts. 2/2 Photo: ASHA
