In 1985 I made a tape of a friend’s Ten Foot Faces record without knowing it was a 45 EP. Listened for years without realizing that the band played revved up surf punk that I had just recorded slower. Somehow still sounded great, but a much different vibe

Like many early 80’s boys I listened to a lot of hair metal; but I also liked folk and hippie 60’s music. In 1985 I bought REM’s Fables of the Reconstruction. It was like folk music, but modern and cool, and I was hooked. From there it was a slippery slope to everything alt and punk

Living down by the beach in California, I didn’t know that my Corolla needed a new battery until I took it to the snow. Fortunately, it was stick shift and we were in the mountains; so, I just parked it facing downhill and bump started it for the rest of the trip

Walked the dog past a homeless guy on the river levee today. He was trying to walk his bike loaded with all of his belongings while eating a tasty Beckman’s Berry Bomb pie out of the box. Dropped his bike 3 times, never dropped his pie. Thus today I learned the true meaning of thanksgiving

We had a melibe invasion a month ago in Monterey. They were carpeting the eelgrass and algae all along the Wharf 2 dive. We’ve spent entire dives searching the kelp for just one. And this year you can’t get a picture at the wharf without accidentally including a melibe

Those of us who dive there call it the pinnapocalypse- this is the 2nd year they’ve taken over the entire beach. There are plenty of other dive sites, but none that have as much parking and can handle the volume of classes that go on at the breakwater

2 best things about that show were the title sequence, where they played the full 4 minute song; and that they completely nailed that deril surfer kid character- I think by casting someone who was a much better skater than actor. But he definitely reminded me of a lot of old friends.

Couple of weeks ago, saw some super old guy drive off with the pump still in his car. Completely tore off his gas tank door. He spent the next 20 minutes blocking a row of pumps while he tried to reattach it. Big line of people were all wishing he’d ignored it and kept driving
