Never been involved in student politics but it looks like it's making some waves in France.

If they willfully celebrated their participation in warcrimes I would not be able to stomach that but that's a different matter.

Eh, I could honestly forgive people who've been in either, militaries (like terrorists) target the young and foolish and if I felt that being a fool was no grounds to be a friend then I'd be excluding myself as well.

They do not have equal rights though more than the rest of the Palestinians who also lived there.

As is there are Islamic, Christian, Jewish, Hindu and probably other religious institutions in the Uk who hold that belief, which is bad, but they're not ethnically cleansing a people over it.

The difference is, if a woman in the UK disagrees with submitting to her husband, she herself can choose to distance from that community (whatever religion it adheres to). If a Palestinian wishes to live in their homeland without being attacked and abused and often killed they have no such option.

No.

Weird. I don't make friends with people I don't think are worthy of loyalty.

If there are no Synagogues in your area which do not materially support the genocidal apartheid state Israel you can always start one. This does not preclude practicing Judaism.

I don't see how. If you are angry about things that keep happening over which you have no power that can stew into malice. Its an emotion, if it leads you to murder innocents - it's an excess of it. Malice can be legitimate and legitimately channeled - but murdering innocents isn't. P. simple.

I mean I think RUNNING a sex trafficking blackmail ring raises particular questions (did u purchase or get blackmailed by) but at the same time I don't really think ppl should be judged for *just* being friends with someone not even Epstein.

I believe malice comes under "an excess of emotion".

DegeneracyPressure @lafumee.substack.com · 06/10/2026
What's the difference in terms that determine who is or isn't a capable of being a friend?
100
DegeneracyPressure @lafumee.substack.com · 06/10/2026
Huh? Why not?
100
DegeneracyPressure @lafumee.substack.com · 06/10/2026
Weird? I assume you wouldn't extend that to members of (any country's) armed forces or anything?

DegeneracyPressure @lafumee.substack.com · 06/10/2026
If I am friends with them already I presumably have reasons I love and care for them and I imagine their decision making, should it be true, was based on either faulty reasoning or an excess of emotion, I can forgive both those things.

So? She may well believe it. Why is that some weird gotcha?

Nope, don't need to the details don't make a difference here.

Its kinda funny to make comments like that when the ultimate thing here is defending Israel cuz... yeah kinda, true of several members of the government and almost everyone involved in founding the place. So yeh these things happen and my judgement is more decided on the whys.

I saw the charges.

DegeneracyPressure @lafumee.substack.com · 06/10/2026
Well "poor judgement" is rather more common and far less a severe charge than the insinuation that was meant by making this connection though isn't it. Because there isn't a sudden flurry of articles in the media about it to highlight her "poor judgement".

DegeneracyPressure @lafumee.substack.com · 06/10/2026
At this point in time I am simply defending the principle of standing by your friends. I know nothing about this guy.
100
DegeneracyPressure @lafumee.substack.com · 06/10/2026
I don't see why pleading guilty means someone couldn't have been groomed or why someone's friend might choose to believe so even if it wasn't the case.
100
DegeneracyPressure @lafumee.substack.com · 06/10/2026
I don't know but if she believes it doesn't mean a) that its true and b) that it came up in court if it is.

DegeneracyPressure @lafumee.substack.com · 06/10/2026
If I believed they had been. Its hardly unknown that various intelligence services groom people to do things like this.

If your friend got arrested, extradited to the US and then confessed to such a thing would you just ditch them? Sounds like a bit of a shitty way to treat a friend. Standing by your relationship doesn't mean approving of (or it sounds like even believing that he did) any crimes they commit.

Someone speaking sympathetically of their friend?
100
DegeneracyPressure @lafumee.substack.com · 06/10/2026
The article about it in the Jewish Chronicle points out that they were friends in university, before he went to Yemen or got arrested and extradited to the US. Is everyone who's friend committed a crime now going to be held suspect? Awful lot of friends of Epstein walking around if thats the case...

They didn't pass a motion on Judaism. They passed a motion about Zionism, a racist colonial movement that has displaced Palestinian people from their homes and is as we speak engaged in the wholesale slaughter of people in both Palestine and now Lebanon.

None of this stuff maps neatly, life and humanity is complex and messy, that doesn't mean abandoning all analysis, you can just add caveats as and where they're needed.

Casteism (not only the Indian version) is more or less the same concept applied in a different context (not Euro colonialism). It might have different justifcations (although often in the modern day it draws on 'race science'-y type justifications too).

DegeneracyPressure @lafumee.substack.com · 06/10/2026
Not only British, racism is a concept that developed out of European colonialism, people just being xenophobic isn't inherently racist, it becomes racism when there is a structural power differential that creates exclusion or hierarchy out of group difference.

If aparthied was racism in the 1980s then it is in 2026. If Zionism places more rights on one set of people's above another that is racism. There is no naunces here. From its very outset it was a racist Colonial outpost for control of resources & projection of power=Dictators with a US Weapons Tab

I will not be unhappy if a genuine, lasting peace with 2 states occurs. Peace is good, but that ship sailed a long while back. Its obvious that Israel is a racist colonialist project imposed on the region to the detriment of the people there why should we support it's existence?

Hopefully the Palestinian people. What's the alternative? They're all wiped out and Tony Blair gets to own a bit of holiday resort over their bones?

Racism isn't always based on skin colour, its still racist to hate the Irish and they're just as pale as any anglo. Racial categories are fundamentally tied into class and socioeconomic division you can't divorce them from that. And cmon, Hinduvata is absolutely casteist, look at what the BJP *do*

If Israeli Jews are willing to live as equals among Palestinians with no special privileges then that need not be the case but if they do not feel this is something they are capable of then they have to leave.

DegeneracyPressure @lafumee.substack.com · 06/10/2026
How is it not Racism? Casteism is effectively racism. Like what's racism actually about if not carving out excluded and lesser groups?

DegeneracyPressure @lafumee.substack.com · 06/10/2026
They have shown over many decades zero interest or willingness to do that despite many long standing sincere efforts at a peace process during which more and more of Palestine was colonised and conquered. If that was ever on the table Israel have themselves made clear its not now.

DegeneracyPressure @lafumee.substack.com · 06/10/2026
True, "ethnonationalism is bad" is just a nice general principle, but the driving force of the emotion behind the motion is the horrific images and videos out of gaza and the west bank and the constant frank racism and openly genocidal rhetoric coming out of the Israeli media and political class.

You don't think it's controversial to take actions to "ensure" there's a numerical majority of one people in a country and maintaining their control over the state? Surely you wouldn't think that was acceptable for any other people?

I spent my teen years on forums with people who now somehow have jobs in the Trump admin so I think I have a pretty good handle on the political strategy of the current crop of racists.

It either has to be. Or a genocidal state. Or not a Jewish state. Either they remove (dead or alive) the Palestinians. They disenfranchise them. In a democracy with equal rights for all and no suppression there is no lasting specifically Jewish state character. Which is what Zionism is about.
