It's the slowing of the transition that costs them the most. Tying energy systems to a volatile and finite resource is costing poor people so much right now. Renewables are the cheapest form of energy in human history. China has EVs with plenty of range for 13,000 dollars. We can't buy them.

Chinaa CO2 emissions are going to plummet now. I bet they also up-end world order now by flooding the developing world with renewables and infrastructure at bargain basement prices. A modernized and thriving africa that largely got there by working with China would completely tip the scales.

Vice presidents have exactly as much power as the president grants them. Cheney was the president for all intents and purposes, but only because Bush went along. In Bush's second term Cheney lost much of his power because Bush didn't like the blowback from Cheney's decisions.
