That’s a weird take. It seems to me that he’s talking about two things which are inextricably linked. I think it’s fair to say that if Oct 7 hadn’t happened Israel wouldn’t have felt so emboldened as to slaughter 100,000 innocent people, so it’s kinda hard to treat them as entirely separate events.

With this, I strongly disagree. Eye contact and small talk aren’t mandatory skills for many jobs - it’s unfair to think that only people who are socially skilled should get the good jobs. Those skills are learned over years - not taking a coffee to an interview is a skill learned in 3 seconds flat.

Unfortunately there’s a price to pay for our mistakes - even if we didn’t know they were mistakes at the time. Best way to learn a lesson is by doing the thing, accepting the consequences, and making a conscious decision to not do that thing again. That’s how we learned lessons in my day, at least…

It’s pretty binary in my view. Don’t take an iced coffee into a job interview and you won’t need to die wondering if it was the coffee that led you to miss out. The lesson: be self aware enough to know when something you’re doing might cast you in a negative light (irrespective of your skin colour).

I understand what you’re saying. What I’m saying is regardless of skin colour, taking an iced coffee into an interview is a bad look. I would immediately eliminate that person from my pool of candidates - black, white or polka dotted. Feels to me like respect is the issue here - not race.

You’re mostly right, but taking a coffee into a job interview is just ridiculous. Priorities are important. If keeping your caffeine intake up is more important than giving the appearance of professionalism, you don’t deserve the job. I think they call that a red flag in the dating game 🚩
