A map to a forgotten valley where the honey is sweet & the children are sent away with vacant eyes. Every path leads closer to the hive's embrace. Stunning art by @danielharila.bsky.social for my Cairn folk horror adventure, The Beekeeper's Tithe. #Cairn #TTRPG #OSR #FolkHorror #Cartography

I have a background in consumer tech, and know that all printers will have their own bullshit. HP instant ink looks great on paper, but there are a lot of hidden cavates that push the price up. As many have suggested Brother Printers are known for being robust and lack any of these gimmicks

Substack is a confusing hybrid of a newsletter and social media, so I am not surprised you get lost. I use it, and content discovery outside of direct subscriptions is very hit-or-miss. I would also love a new space for these conversations, as discord, while good, is too siloed for broad discovery

I'm incredibly jealous! I'd love to see movies like that in traditional cinema format. Have you seen Kurosawa's lesser known High and Low? It's more of a crime thriller. My favourite samurai film is Ugetsu Monogatari, but it's more supernatural in places.

My recommendation would be to buy an off the hanger suit that you like and just get it tailored to your fit afterwards. I know it won't be bespoke, but you'll look amazing for the big day.

I often wonder why that impression exists: that a creative career is either a vanity project for the rich or simply a hobby with no middle ground. Like many, I have a day job to support myself, but the time and dedication I put into my "hobby" easily equals the effort of full-time work.

Speaking of DS1 cheese. These same people would then spend ages trying to shoot the drake's tail to get the drake sword so early on, and then trivialise the entire beginning.

From an accessibility standpoint, easy modes are essential. Believing that all players have the same reaction times or capabilities is exclusionary; including options to lower the difficulty ensures more people can enjoy the game... The whole "git gud" mentality is pretty reductive.

A flippant house rule risks undermining a game's cohesion, preventing the group from experiencing the specific game the designer intended. It is a little sad, like buying a cookbook only to ignore the recipe. Afterwards though, go wild and tweak. There's reasons designers spend so long refining...

When players transition to PbtA games, do you think the main hurdle is the mechanical shift from making saves to triggering moves? Or does the difficulty go deeper, requiring a philosophical rewiring from relying on a warden's adjudication to embracing a more collaborative, group-driven narrative?

That is a wise approach. Trusting the community to be honourable is often the best strategy, and it certainly frees up the mental energy that would otherwise be spent maintaining a more complex system.

Something simple I do: for me, imposter syndrome is the feeling of never being good enough next to my contemporaries. I short-circuit this by repeating an affirmation, such as 'I am a skilled writer', aloud three times with increasing conviction until I believe it.

Labyrinthine Press | James Renga @labyrinthine-press.itch.io · 06/09/2025
It would be a sad irony if someone goes to the effort of finding your work, subscribing, and even paying for it, only to steal it from another tier. Especially when the price points are so low in comparison to your average commission.

Labyrinthine Press | James Renga @labyrinthine-press.itch.io · 06/09/2025
The only other problem with this method is managing access. As it's largely going to be an honour system, especially if people move down tiers etc. RIP your Google drive storage

Labyrinthine Press | James Renga @labyrinthine-press.itch.io · 06/09/2025
This isn't a very elegant way of doing it, however you could have separated Google drive folders and have a different post linking to each tier of assets, but that would require updating multiple different folders.

It is disheartening to hear a creators' work so flippantly removed without consequence. Creators suffer at the expense of a soulless bot, often with little recourse. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and always makes me question the dangers of not self hosting content.
