Quick feminist analysis. Q: Does the motion acknowledge women's legal & human rights to equality? A: No. Q. Does the motion benefit males or females? A: Primarily males at the expense of females. Conclusion: motion reinforces power relations between the sexes. This is patriarchy.

There's time for Edinburgh residents to contact their councillors and ask that the paper be sent back to the drawing board. The @ScottishLabour group support single-sex provision but are in a minority on the council, so it's important to contact councillors of all parties. 3/3

The paper uses contested ideological terms throughout, and is framed around the perceived needs of trans-identifying people. Transactivist groups have been extensively consulted; the paper notes an intention to further consult them. No intention to consult women's groups 2/3

Staggering arrogance and stupidity from McDonnell. We all know what sex we are. There's no reason for men to break the law and use women's single-sex spaces. They can simply respect women's boundaries or can be told to leave. Women matter in society, law, culture, politics ... and elections!
