Here in Southampton, the average wait for a three-bed council home is currently around 8 years. If everyone had access to a safe, affordable, comfortable home, so many other problems would be alleviated as a result. That’s why we’re investing £39 billion to build social and affordable housing. 🏠

📢 JUST ANNOUNCED: From April, disabled people in Southampton will be able to use their free bus passes at any time of day. Right now, if you wanted to travel before 9:30am you would have to pay. This is simply not fair and I’m pleased we are acting to right this wrong. Lots done, lots more to do!

📢 JUST ANNOUNCED: Southampton is getting a new mental health emergency department! This is on top of funding a new urgent treatment ‘walk-in’ centre at the Hospital and more investment into primary care - all aimed at taking pressure off the current A&E department and cutting down waiting times.

Really exciting to see Southampton chosen as one of the first areas for SSEN's new pilot to upgrade old electricity connections. ⚡ This is alongside SSEN's huge £155 million investment in Southampton's electricity network – something we worked hard to secure through my Southampton Energy Coalition.

It was brilliant to meet local hospital bosses last week, and tour the area of Southampton General Hospital damaged by the recent fire. They are making the best of the situation by working to ensure the section requiring a rebuild will be redone to a high spec and properly modernised.

So proud to be part of the government that is finally banning conversion therapy. 🌈 It's been a long road, first promised back in 2018 under Theresa May. Nobody should ever be subjected to practices that seek to change who they are, including LGBTQ+ people here in Southampton.
