The motion recognises the work of Doctors in Distress and NHS Practitioner Health in supporting healthcare professionals and calls on the Government to reaffirm its commitment to protecting staff wellbeing and mental health.

I recently marked National Suicide Memorial Day for Health and Care Workers by signing @cateccles.bsky.social's parliamentary motion. ONS data indicates that an average of four healthcare workers die by suicide each week, a sobering reminder of the pressures faced by NHS staff.

2/2 That’s why I’ve signed a parliamentary motion calling on the Government to put hospices on a sustainable footing, with secure multi-year NHS funding settlements and proper funding for palliative and end-of-life care.

Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
1/2 Hospices provide vital care and support to patients and their families at the most difficult moments in their lives. Their staff and volunteers do extraordinary work with compassion and dignity. Yet 70% of hospices warn they may be forced to cut services due to rising financial pressures.

2/2 We now have a chance to chart a new and better course away from Palantir. We should take it quickly, with both hands.

Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
1/2 I recently spoke to @thenerve.news about reports that the Government has spent or agreed to spent at least £992m with Palantir. It’s becoming increasingly clear the British state is in the early stages of addiction to Palantir and all it represents.

5/5 From a British MP who has had to weigh sentences against safety, I would put it slightly differently. The answer to violence against people who speak is to keep speaking, and to make sure they are not doing it alone.
180
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
4/5 After the attacks in Norway of 22 July, then PM Jens Stoltenberg said the answer was more democracy, more openness, more humanity.

Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
3/5 Every act of political violence, and every credible threat of it, redraws the boundary of what can be said in public. The product of political violence isn’t the dead alone. It’s also what the living stop saying.
141
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
2/5 I have been on both ends of political violence. In 2009 I was a soldier in Helmand, part of the British response to 9/11. Since 2015 I have been a Member of Parliament, and in that time two of my colleagues have been murdered at work.

1/5 It was an honour to be invited by @lonorge.bsky.social to speak at a panel discussion on the impact terrorism has had on society and how the far-right influences internationally. This was part of an event to mark 15 years since the terrorist attacks in Oslo and at Utøya in 2011.

3/3 If there is really to be growth in every postcode, serious attention needs to be paid to our region

Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
2/3 That’s why I and Norwich City Council Labour Group leader Cllr @carliharper.bsky.social have written to the PM, Chancellor and First Secretary of State urging them to back Norwich and the East in the Budget.
1102
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
1/3 Norwich and the East of England offer so much to the UK, culturally, socially and economically. But the region’s potential is severely limited, receiving the lowest public investment per head across England.

2/2 I recently signed @neilduncanjordan.bsky.social's letter calling for Labour to protect the living standards of disabled people by rejecting poverty-inducing cuts. This is an opportunity to show disabled people who’s side we’re on. A return to the Labour way.
3315
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
1/2 In his conference speech, Andy Burnham said that crude cuts to welfare are not the Labour way. That we need to invest in people and their success. He’s right. This should mark a reset in our approach to welfare, including to benefits for disabled people.

Former Labour Deputy Leader Lord Thomas Watson, now Senior VP at Palantir UK, wrote to me defending their public contracts. Instead of trading letters, I’ve challenged him to an open, public debate. He can defend Palantir’s ethos; I’ll argue for public accountability. Will you accept, Tom?
Formal letter from Clive Lewis MP, Member of Parliament for Norwich South, to Lord Thomas Watson of Wyre Forest, Senior Vice President of Palantir Technologies UK Limited, dated 7 October 2026. In the letter, Lewis challenges Watson to a public debate regarding Palantir's role in government contracts and public institutions. Lewis rejects Watson's claim that criticisms malign software engineers, stressing that elected officials must scrutinize corporate power, democratic control, and public accountability. He proposes a debate with an impartial chair, equal time, and audience questions.

3/3 If this moment is seized, I think the government will be pleasantly surprised by how many people fall in line. I spoke about this on Monday at @compassoffice.bsky.social and @serauk.bsky.social on Public Ownership of Water.
1331
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
2/3 This is a vital moment to take on those interests. To take on the likes of Thames Water, who have been ripping us off for years.
1361
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
1/3 Andy Burnham’s upcoming 10-year plan is a real opportunity to start taking back control of our economy. To break the cycle of government’s being dictated to by vested interests.

11/ This could reshape UK politics. The labour movement must prepare for a proportional voting system and its implications for our political culture. We welcome this, and will build a movement ready to put democratic socialist values into practice.
7547
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
10/ On electoral reform: The PM agreed with conference votes, announced a national commission, and promised a manifesto commitment for a system where every vote counts. Only PR meets that test.
1345
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
9/ With like-minded colleagues, I will support what is good, push further and faster, seek clarity, and prevent backsliding from those inside government who want to slow the pace or narrow the scope.
1232
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
8/ Despite this, the direction of travel is clear: more public ownership, more public control, and an end to relying on the market for basics. Everyone who campaigned for this should feel proud. This is just the start.
1225
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
7/ On the triple lock: Moving to weaken the pension triple lock from 2030 to pay for social care is the wrong approach. With 1.7m pensioners in poverty, redistributing resources within our class is a sledgehammer. We should target extreme wealth with a scalpel instead.
5336
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
6/ More key concerns: • Growth: Relies on public control & devolved power, but lacks clear plans for long-term investment or broader prosperity metrics. • Orthodoxy: Sticking to rigid fiscal rules risks undermining these promises. The Budget is the test.
1293
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
5/ Where it falls short: • Scale: The gap between diagnosis and modest immediate fixes (£2 bus fares, VAT off electricity) is its main weakness. • Ownership: Repealing bans & public competitors are only first steps. Reversing 40 years of retreat requires deep investment & democratisation.
1334
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
4/ More proposals: • Care: A National Care Service, free at the point of use. • Austerity: Acknowledging that budget cuts prolong structural problems rather than solving them. It was a speech returning to long-overdue social-democratic values, but we must be honest on where it falls short.
1251
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
3/ What was proposed: • Water: Repeal Thatcher-era bans on public ownership, using it as a sanction for failing operators. • Energy: A publicly owned Great British Grid competing with private operators. • Housing: Major council house building; Right to Buy removed from new homes.
5252
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
2/ Blaming privatisation, deregulation, and austerity, he argued essential services (water, energy, housing, and care) were broken up and sold off, and the public needs control again. That is a fundamental break, and an argument many on the left have made for years.

Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
1/ Burnham’s Conference Speech: Positive signs for progressive politics, but the work isn’t done. 🧵 It’s been a tumultuous summer with a new PM. Continuing themes set out over the summer, Andy Burnham told Labour conference the country has been on the wrong path for 40 years.
A screenshot of a news headline from The Guardian. The top category text in red reads "Andy Burnham". The headline reads, "‘He feels more relatable’: Burnham’s conference speech wins praise from drifting Labour voters". Subheading: "The UK prime minister has earned his party a rehearing but the battle of public opinion is not yet won". Byline: Luke Tryl, published Saturday, 3 October 2026.

For too long "Treasury Brain" has prevented governments from pursuing truly transformative agendas. No 10 North is a welcome first step on a path that could lead to a new culture in government. One that could allow us to rebuild democracy, public ownership and resilience in our public services.

Mic drop moment at our event on the sidelines of #labconf26 in Liverpool, when @labourlewis.bsky.social revealed a letter from Tom Watson showing Palantir has tracked his mentioning them nearly 130 times. Is there anything Palantir doesn’t want to know about us?

If we don’t tackle them now, the anti-migrant disorder Portsmouth and Dover are an example of what might happen. The actions set out in this report will give us the tools to do so.

The polycrisis demands urgency – the climate and nature crisis, water crisis, cost of living crisis, all mean the status quo is no longer tenable. Meanwhile the soaring unaffordability of essentials drives more and more people into the arms of the far right. We're at the foothills of real crises.

This approach has not worked, and we are now on course for the worst decade since the 1920s. We cannot go on like this.

For the last 40 years, our economic growth has been steadily declining. Over that time, the Treasury View has become increasingly dominant in setting national strategy and has been buttressed by the work of the OBR and the remit of the Bank of England.

2/2 As the climate crisis intensifies, we need to organise for the protections workers deserve. That’s why I’ve written to the Business Secretary calling for statutory maximum temperatures at work.
25211
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
1/2 Climate breakdown is a class issue. When heatwaves hit, it’s working people who are expected to keep working through dangerous temperatures, often without clearly defined protections and rights.

Reform's recent huge donations from tech billionaires make one thing crystal clear: despite their populist rhetoric, their true loyalty lies with ultra-wealthy elites rather than working-class Britons. They have proven once again whose interests they really serve. And they certainly aren’t ours.

2/2 At a time when our nature is already under pressure, we can’t afford to lose woodlands habitats like Oaken Wood. That’s why I’ve signed @chrishinchliff.bsky.social letter calling on the Government to save Oaken Wood and strengthen protections for ancient woodland across England.
35616
Clive Lewis MP @labourlewis.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
1/2 This summer, Reform-led Kent County Council voted to include Oaken Wood in its minerals plan. If approved, at least 41 hectares of this ancient woodland would be destroyed, making it the largest loss of ancient woodland in England this century.

Was great to speak at the launch of Labour Defence and Security Network last week. I spoke about the need for a defence strategy built on true consent, democratic agency, and public control of essentials. We can't keep substituting debates about % of GDP for a real discussion on national security.

Yesterday was an absolute whirlwind. We finally saw a record number of MPs step up and support public ownership of water, something I’ve spent years fighting for. To top it off, I got to chat with Becky Hill who came to show her support, look me in the eye, and say, “This is the Hill I’ll die on.”
