Deciding to cut contact with a toxic person who you deeply cared for definitely hurts at first, but you will feel so much better when you do. It doesn’t need to blow up into this huge thing and you don’t even tell them. You just decide one day to let them have the last word and you stop responding.

I think I should also be able to wear them in juvenile court. If juvenile is supposed to be less “formal” than the adult side, we should be able to wear comfortable clothing. I’m gonna present this as an idea to the head judge.

Nike Dunks are a therapeutic intervention and you should be able to write them off on taxes. You have no idea how quickly you can build a rapport with a kid if you have better kicks than they do. If I can write off a bubble blower machine and spray paint, I should be able to write off shoes.

I’m not very familiar with their system but 12 isn’t bad. In Pennsylvania it’s 10, which is ridiculous. Kid isn’t even competent to stand trial at that age

Putting children in prison will not cure delinquent behaviors. Delinquency is just a symptom of capitalism. Children (regardless of their behaviors) need to be cared for and nurtured, not thrown in a cell and abused every day.

So, why did Henry sit so long? Because the parole board has the power to deny release. Henry was denied twice before they finally agreed to let him go. These SCOTUS rulings were groundbreaking, but there is still so much bullshit defense has to do to get their client released.

It went to SCOTUS after Louisiana refused to apply it to Henry’s case. In 2016 it was finally decided that all states had to retroactively apply the ban to children given LWOP pre miller.

Montgomery v Louisiana was a landmark case in a group of SCOTUS rulings that finally forced the country to treat children as children. After Miller v Alabama (2012) made juvenile life without parole unconstitutional, Henry’s attorneys then challenged his sentence under Miller

Historic wins in juvenile justice. 3 years ago Henry Montgomery became a free man. He was given life without the possibility of parole at 17 years old. Henry became a “model prisoner”, mentoring younger men in the prison, and actually coached a boxing team. 🧵
