Prof Joshua Pearce's lab at Western University turned failed 3D prints into edible protein. They shredded PLA waste with an open-source shredder, then used lye to break it into something baker's yeast can eat. The stage is capable of sub-micron-scale motion, with very small drift over time. Which makes it quite good, among other things, for time-lapse protocols that need to be done over days/weeks time, and under space restricted areas, such as fume hoods.

Being self-employed means we can do more of what we love. Recently we volunteered at our local children's nursery and brought the OpenFlexure Microscope. We had a great time hunting for garden creatures and viewing pre-prepared slides. The hairy fly legs were definitely the biggest hit!🪰

We're working with the AMYBO.org community to extend the Pioreactor for sustainable protein experiments. 🦠 A couple of weeks ago, we ran a hands-on session at the Cambridge Festival Schools Days! 🧪🌱 KS3 students used the Pioreactor and @openflexure.bsky.social microscope to explore cyanobacteria.
