I had a friend that was TERRIBLE about this. And the worst part is that if you started getting any more aggressive with them they'd start moping about! And then they'd leave the VC and vague post in another server's vent channel about it, another server ALL OF US WERE IN.

I'm hoping parts 2 and 3 refine the formula and start using the actual strengths of the media they're choosing to work with, and I hope they don't pull their punches for the casual gacha crowd. Between this and spring cultivation it feels like PM would rather be working on a different game.

It would have been neat if you had to interact with mirrors to redirect the sunlight, or if NPC's moved around and had to be lured to the right spots, or if the light would flash on and off and you had to time it to get what you needed. The solution is even told to you after your first death!

The second was a room where you had to stay in light to be safe from NPC's you needed to interact with. But, the light and NPC's are both in static locations. You just had to stand on the obviously correct tile or you'd get a short death cutscene and have to walk for 10 seconds to get back.

So you can brute for the answer in seconds if you want to. In another game, you'd be punished with a fight that drains your scarce resources for guessing incorrectly and so you'd be rewarded for actually learning the answer instead of just hitting buttons until you were randomly correct.

The other thing that the new format could have provided was an opportunity to add a few puzzly bits, but off the top of my head I can really only name two puzzles and both of them barely counted. The first is a series of dialogue choices with absolutely no penalty for guessing incorrectly.

It's more or less just resetting after losing a fight on a node, or even a dungeon- which honestly had better tension because at least there, damage was retained for much longer and if you had all your sinners die you might be going back a not insignificant distance! I kinda hope stakes ramp up...

Thankfully death also doesn't really matter at all. Checkpoints are frequent, they restore your only limited resources (HP) and all story progress and enemy kills are retained after dying. You can pretty easily toss yourself at enemies with no regard for your safety because there's nothing to lose.

In spite of this you do actually have the option to fuck up the whole story by physically assaulting people, you'll just immediately get hit with the "bad boy" pseudo cutscene that takes 30 seconds to kill you. Which, makes me wonder why the option is there at all if you die for choosing it?

The writing is just as good as it always is... But it really could have been the usual node based system and nothing would have significantly changed. You're really just following the arrow to points of interest repeatedly and talking until you go to the next section.

New Limbus canto dropped and I finished it last night, spent today mulling it over. Over all liked it, however, I will now spend a lot of words on everything I didn't like about it. The short of it is that it simply did not properly take advantage of the new medium that it was playing in.
