Simpler terms almost always get the job done better. Why “utilize” or “employ” big words when we can just use smaller ones? Sure, it might feel good to “exhibit” that you “wield” a “capacious” vocabulary, but you can still be a good writer with basic language. Big words tend to “obfuscate” —I mean cloud—the meaning of ideas. Sometimes they help make a point, but they can also box out readers.

This Wednesday, prospective freshmen pay a visit to my university to take college admission interviews. Look at the temperature. 🥶 Poor kids.

It shows a 7-day forecast with low and high temperatures shown in Celsius. Temperature plummets Wednesday when we have college admissions interviews.

Remarks on Machine Learning
- Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.
- In data science, 80% of the time is spent preparing data, 20% of the time is spent complaining about preparing data.
- Don’t be intimidated by jargon: A model is just a fancy word for “recipe.”
- Don’t hate machine learning for being simple. Levers are simple too, but they can move the world.
- If you had facts, you wouldn’t need statistics.
