The only mod done to this car was moving the steering column and pedals to the center. Live shot in a single take. Too bad the fucking slide whistle ruined the scene in the film because this is one of the most amazing stunts ever performed. This was in 1974.

What's even the use case? Not even an elite driver is going to be able to right themselves in an airborne accident. Getting airborne means something went very VERY wrong. Also, congrats Elon, you introduced a feature from the General Lee in the Dukes of Hazzard TV show in the 1970s.

This was from the same day that Bob Beamon demolished the long jump world record (by over 21", when the record had been increased by fractions of an inch for the preceding century). In 1967, Beamon and 11 other Black athletes from UTEP were cut from the team for boycotting a meet with BYU.

Worth noting: Peter Norman (the white guy) was ostracized in Australia for wearing an Olympic Project for Human Rights badge in solidarity with Smith and Carlos here. He was left off the 1972 Aussie Olympic team. Smith and Carlos were pallbearers at his funeral in 2006.

The "The Man With The Golden Gun" corkscrew jump had no thrusters or anything. It was just precision driving and a precision-engineered stunt bridge. Loren Willet also nailed it in one take. And this is 100% impractical.

Much like how Elon's claims that Teslas are "self-driving" are bullshit, so is "flying." At best, this is "correcting itself while airborne." This isn't even gliding. Unless Evel Knievel jumps made his motorcycles become "flying motorcycles," then Elon's still 50 years behind the times.
