On one hand, IMO they’re not wrong - it’s gambling in pretty much all but name. On the other hand, I think they’re pretty transparently protecting their existing sports betting interests and deals here, and want to be able to wrangle prediction markets similarly.

If we go hard enough, they’ll release a movie like “The Podracer And Biddy Blas” that should have been a season of television.

I was waiting to upgrade one of my Apple TV 4Ks with the new one so I could put the old one on another TV since it’s still great…but honestly, now the plan is to just buy another older used one, especially after the new one drops and folks might be selling off their old one.

Technically, the long tail of browser (Safari) & device (Android) support frustrates practical use of new web technologies. The people side’s a mess. Abysmal market, HTML & CSS are almost lost arts, and people either just yeet AI code into prod or use it as an example of why web dev “isn’t hard”.

Well of all the ways to do layoffs… that sure was one is them. I was spared this time, but if you’re looking to hire, MAN do I have some incredible people I can point you to. Managers, junior to staff level engineers, test engineers. So many good people.

As much as I prefer Star Trek, I have to admit Star Wars has it beat on the Weird Little Guys front.

Zek: I need the reason. Don't say latinum. Why do this? Ogawa: Why not do it? Because yesterday I walked out of sickbay after losing four years of my life and you're cold-decking "Fleet" cover boys. Because the house always wins. … unless … you bet big, and then you take the house.

Hilariously, “almost but not quite real UI” breaks my suspension of disbelief more than “completely fictionalized UI,” though the latter may have been to overconsumption of LCARS in my formative years.

An army? No, all we need is a squad of imprisoned anti-heroes coerced into the suicidal mission by bombs implanted in their necks and promises of reduced sentences.

The b-plot is a farce in which an increasingly desperate Picard tries to play matchmaker for the ambassador, only to be the sole recipient of Lwaxana’s attention. At the conclusion of the episode, she departs with the Mugatu, saying something like “A girl’s gotta eat.” before beaming out.

I’m somewhat amazed that Disney let them get away with minimizing their brand so much on the packaging. The show’s logo isn’t even there!

Real answer: I’d probably change selects more generally: - “field” displays any selected option in a comma-delimited list - minselected and maxselected to replace multiple - listbox behaves traditionally, but is fully styleable to create “trad” multiple depiction if desired - also comedy answer 🥺

Presumably, Pike said “lol beam my horse to the barn,” but Star Trek hasn’t explored how animals experience the transporter. Does the horse materialize in their stable and just be chill and eat some alfalfa, or are they like “What in the ever-loving fuck?!” and just flip out? Do they get used to it?

This is always what I’ve assumed people are talking about. Now watch as the internet proves me wrong and it turns out to be like a detailed silhouette of Abraham Lincoln or something.
A photo of the moon, shot artistically, where it appears to be on the cusp of the blue atmosphere against the black of space. There are clouds below. Or, it is all a conspiracy theory fueled by the collective silence of millions. Whichever is easier to believe. The same picture, but with my perception of the “man in the moon” highlighted, basically making it into the largest 😮 emoji possible.

ATTENTION BAJORAN WORKERS: Experiencing a fleeting feeling of weightlessness is allowed only in ore processing sublevel service corridors - it will not be tolerated elsewhere. Return to your stations immediately, and your generous Cardassian benefactors will overlook this indulgence.

Remember, THIS is what’s poisoning the brains of employers everywhere.
A screenshot of the AT&T customer support chat, which wouldn’t have been possible before designers invented rounded corners during Web 2.0.

I ask the following question:
“The phone associated with [OMITTED] has been broken beyond repair. I am trying to set up an eSIM for that number on the replacement phone. However, it is texting a verification code to the broken phone.”

The response from Andi, AT&T’s AI assistant, is prefaced with an ominous “Some responses may be generated by AI.” warning. It proceeds to point me to their “battery and power help page”, offer me a link to “improve the battery life of [my] device”, and suggests to start an insurance claim for a “damaged or defective battery” if I’m covered by “AT&T Protect Advantage”, which sounds like a scam antimalware malware from 2004. It concludes by reminding me that Apple no longer ships chargers with their devices, but you can buy one from AT&T.

Grimace, saying: My milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard. 🥤 Grimace, thinking: My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard. 😏 Apple Pie Tree: the boys
A painting of everyone’s favorite purple gumdrop, Grimace, frolicking next to a waterfall and stream, balancing four McDonald’s cups on a hand held out like a T-Rex. He’s kind of doing a back-kick with one leg. Behind him is an Apple Pie Tree, deciduous, bearing seven apple pies as fruit (though, curiously, each apple pie also appears to be attached to a very round apple, instead of the apples being separate from the pies like many depictions of the handsome creatures).

Also, the Apple Pie Tree is clearly checking out Grimace’s ass, Grimace clearly knows it, and Grimace clearly likes it.

It’s always a delight when one’s adblocker kills one of these, but the heuristic doesn’t catch the scrim behind the modal, so you just get a web page that you can’t interact with, but otherwise looks normal (or, uh, as normal as a web page by folks who use these things is going to look, anyway).

Honestly, a Solaris-based video game console where all the games were written in Java sounds exactly like something that should have come out of the late 90s.

Apparently it’s mostly just a badged AliExpress sort of emulation handheld and it comes preloaded with a ton of ROMs, and Lenovo’s response of, basically, “lol whoops” suggests that they didn’t have a lot to do with it.

Ah, it’s a SpinMaster toy, the manufacturers of all sorts of fine “you really wanted to speedrun a college engineering course on Christmas morning while the kids are hyped up on sugar, right?” products. I remember hating figuring out their comparatively simple Magic Mixies and Hatchimals.

Ice-T is interrogating some rando in a room made of cinder blocks and a panel with chicken wire or something on it, and there’s a blond woman behind him who is wearing a flannel shirt but the sleeves are all bunched up below her elbows because fashion. There’s a caption poorly positioned over a black box that covers the real caption, and it uses the Courier font so that it looks like a caption, and it says “SNORTING BEANIE BABY BEADS AND GLUE, KIDS ARE CALLING IT “A MEGA BUMP OF FLOAM.””
