The new x2 CD release of Masayoshi Takanaka's Rainbow Goblins Story (Live at Budokan, 1981) has arrived today! I wasn't expecting such in-depth liner notes from Takanaka's former manager at Kitty. Such a wonderful read!

As a wee bonus, I've included an audio only version of this performance! All of it is gapless, exported to OGG Vorbis, tagged by yours truly <3 (note: the source I used for this has lossy audio, so I kept it around the same, ~192kbps) drive.google.com/file/d/1saEb...

A recent interview from Billboard Live with Masayoshi Takanaka from February 2nd, 2026. It's so nice to hear that Takanaka is having a blast preparing for the World Tour! (ML translated)

The world will not let the huge success of the Los Angeles performance go unnoticed. A large-scale world tour is scheduled for March and April. The band will travel around the globe for a month, visiting London, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles again, as well as Sydney and Melbourne in Australia and Auckland in New Zealand. And despite the venues in each city having fairly large capacities, most of the shows have been sold out, a situation that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago. As if resonating with the favorable situation overseas, the band is also seeing an increase in young fans and female audiences at their domestic concerts.

"It feels like things have been getting more and more popular not only overseas but also in Japan over the past few years, so I think right now is probably the most popular time for me (laughs). I used to worry about what kind of songs I should play to be well-received, and whether people would understand me properly, but the concert in Los Angeles made me realize that what I had been doing wasn't wrong. I thought, 'This is the right answer.' I also felt a mixture of excitement and a sense of 'I'm really popular now, wow!' (laughs), so right now I'm just having fun."

Although this year marks the 50th anniversary of his solo career, he says he is not particularly nervous about it. "When you get to my age, every year there's some kind of anniversary, so I leave that sort of thing to my staff," he says, as he continues to steadily carry out his scheduled tours. When asked about his future goals, he laughs and says, "To stay healthy and continue performing."

"But I am conscious of delivering a good performance to the audience. I record each concert and listen to it again. I tell the band members and staff about things that need improvement, like how this song should be performed or whether the sound balance should be a little more like this, and we make improvements. Being so particular about the small detai…
