Haven’t posted much on social media the last few months, so here’s some Aerochrome from a recent trip to Kaua’i. Thankful this roll turned out as well as it did. Our other roll did not share the same fate. #believeinfilm #aerochrome #hawaii

(Potential) Verdict was a piece of fuzz stuck in the lens housing. Thanks to @stigofthedump.bsky.social for suggesting to check the rear element. I found a fuzz stuck in a part of the lens which only “fell down” into the frame when the lens was held at the correct angle. Time to shoot a roll.

Although now that I think about it - it didn’t show up on 4x5 negs I scanned this week. I’ll take a look at the rear lens element - thanks! I appreciate the input.

Hmm this is an interesting idea - I actually don’t think I can see the mark itself on the negatives but my eyes are not very good. It’s not very obvious at all, and I start to question if I’m seeing it or not on the neg. It only ever showed up in the scan. I’ll inspect my scanning rig for dust.

There isn’t a mirror, actually. The Mamiya Super 23 is essentially a big rangefinder. The lens has a leaf shutter & there’s a dark slide in the film back. That’s what led me to believe it could be lens related.

I’m not convinced this particular issue is a light leak - mostly because (in my case) the mark is darker than the rest of my image and it doesn’t go all the way to the edge of the negative. I’m praying it’s a film back issue, but my gut tells me there’s some sort of lens defect.

I should mention this has happened on multiple rolls of film. Both color and b&w

However, there’s no noticeable scratches or issues with the lens upon inspection, and I’ve shined a light through the open optic in my darkroom to the same effect. My plan now is to get a new film back and add some new light seals and go from there. Thoughts?

Alright #believeinfilm - mystery time Who has any idea what might be causing this mark on my film? Some details: Mamiya Super 23 w/ 6x9 back. Sekor 100mm f2.8 lens. Mark appears on each negative in approx. the same place. 1st thoughts are a scratch/issue with the lens or the film back… 1/2

With the Artemis II mission ending successfully, I can’t help but think about what I think is one of the craziest photos ever taken. In 1984, during a mission on the Space Shuttle Challenger, Bruce McCandless II completed the first untethered spacewalk, and was the subject of this insane photo.

Some large format practice. First on Foma 200, then on dry plate (J Lane)

Sometimes I find the differences in social media to be fascinating. I posted this same photo (with a nearly identical caption) on Threads only to be met with “that photo sucks”. Yeah I know - that’s the entire point of the post 😅

Back on the archival grind. Digitized another ~200 slides - mostly from New Zealand (I think) or one of the many islands in the South Pacific. If anything looks familiar please let me know - I’m always hunting for the story behind the photo. #believeinfilm

Mine handles about 95% of my film output at this point. Definitely ensure the tank is fully seated onto the unit. My first unit was defective and leaked chems, but they quickly replaced it and I’ve been using my second unit with no issues. I’d estimate I’ve put nearly 80 rolls + 50 sheets thru it

A truly random assortment of photos from the latest round of dev/scan. Color is from the Superstition Mountains on the Canon 7, and BW is from the F3 from the latest trip to Omaha. #believeinfilm

Older phones, not older photos… What I wouldn’t give for an edit-history on posts in 2026.

get sued for doing so. Also, they still slow down older phones, but now you have the option to disable it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battery... The wiki is actually pretty good about the whole thing.

Not to defend Apple (because they definitely messed up), but the issue was slightly more nuanced. They deliberately slowed down processors of older photos on newer versions of iOS to prevent the phone from shutting down under load. The issue is they didn’t disclose that to the user, and they did..

About $137K an acre, if the land auction they just did is any indication.

Large swaths of this land were just sold for a large development near the TSMC chip plant in Phoenix. Every day they take more of our desert spaces away from us, and soon there will be no more. #believeinfilm

A gnarled tree stump stands in the foreground with sage green and dark green foliage around the bottom of the frame and growing up behind the stump. There is a slope of tan rock and dirt going from the left to top right in the background and the sky is grey-blue with clouds An upside-down J-shaped boulder rest in mid frame. The foreground is desert brush and foliage with some smaller boulders and rocky ground. The background is a small hill covered in more boulders and the sky is light blue with wispy cloudsThe foreground is desert sand with a few bushes bisecting the shot in the middle. The background is a mountain peak with blue-grey sky behind that. Two people, a man and a woman, stand centered in the shot. They’re staring left and the man is slightly more in the foreground than the woman. The man is wearing a dark baseball cap, grey sweater, and salmon shorts with a green backpack and holding a camera to take a shot. The woman is wearing a grey sweater and black leggings and holding the leash to a dog that is off frame. The background is desert landscape with some foliage and a saguaro is the back right. The sky is blue with wispy clouds

By all means - legally and safely detonate your explosives. But please avoid doing so in the dry desert area directly adjacent to my home.

I’m not shocked that Amazon doesn’t want you posted about illegal fireworks in your neighborhood. Who cares if you live steps away from the desert that they’re using for the non-permitted aerial fireworks?
