Apple finally ditched the center-aligned HUD for volume and keyboard brightness, god BLESS
The heads up display for volume now appears at the top of the view, centered beneath the volume icon in the menu bar, instead of as a large square in the center of the screen which obscures the contents of whatever is on screen.

Matt seems Not Well
As of yet, no one at Automattic has heard a confirmation from the board. Mark Davies’ Slack account was also deactivated, sources said.
However, TechCrunch heard yesterday that Mullenweg had removed all Slack admins from the Automattic Slack and made an odd post about being a “pirate” in which he cursed. (Mullenweg famously does not curse). Given this situation, it’s hard to know if he’s now trolling or if legitimate changes have been made.
After his surprise removal as CEO this week, Mullenweg’s public and private social media posts suggested he wasn’t done fighting the decision. On Reddit, he told those speculating what this meant for the open source community that they didn’t know what they were talking about after initially replying, “Hey y’all. I’m here, just fine,” to a Reddit post linking to the 404 Media article that first broke the news.
On X, Mullenweg also posted that “Things are different than they appear,” and said he was in need of sysadmins and security researchers to help him move some of his stuff hosted at Automattic elsewhere, even though he supported Davies as CEO.
In both places, he suggested that Silver Lake, the PE firm that’s the majority owner of the hosting company WP Engine, which is currently embroiled in a lawsuit with Mullenweg and Automattic, was involved in this plan to “destroy” his life.
On Friday morning, Mullenweg posted on X, “Boards are never boring,” followed by a laughing/crying emoji.

In addition to being a legendary designer, Susan Kare is evidently responsible for the fact that confirmation buttons say "OK" instead of... "Do It" "We definitely changed "Do It" to "OK", because 'Do It' was a little off-color, and people read it as 'dolt'"

Email: we're hiring a senior designer for a new team at a frontier AI lab (probably the AI you use every day!).

The goal is to teach the model design taste. You'd work directly with the researcher leading design to find where the model fails -- typography, layout, hierarchy, brand -- and fix it.

Best fit: excellent fundamentals and broad range -- you've shipped brand or product work end-to-end at product companies or top studios. Heavy AI experience not required -- curiosity is, and they're happy to teach the research side.

$250/hr, 20-40 hrs/week, 6-12 months, remote.

To apply, just reply with your portfolio. If it's a good fit, I'll send the full JD + my calendar link!

Reply: Teaching design to AI so that other companies can lay off designers would eat away at my soul.

No thanks.

astro-lilypond@0.17 now includes better logging and error handling: in dev mode, LilyPond syntax errors now appear inline instead of crashing the page when building for production, any LilyPond syntax errors will still fail the entire build, to stop you from accidentally deploying broken scores

some WIP / behind the scenes shots of the first try with the photopolymer plate. some fine details blew out in the wings of the most detailed geese, so the final print ended up being a bit larger and chunkier overall, which I ended up liking more

Really love this statement by Brendan at Kaijuville kaijuville.com
I work hard at this project because I find joy, pleasure and fulfillment in the process of this labor. I can say I am proud of the results without needing to qualify it. Work is the medium through which we negotiate what we owe to each other. If you have paid me your attention, then I owe you my best effort, and mine alone.

`text-decoration-style: wavy` varies in appearance from browser to browser. In Chrome it appears thicker than a straight underline of equal width. Safari's wavy underline looks the nicest, imo. Firefox uses hard 45º angles for some reason
A comparison of the `text-underline-style: wavy` treatment across browsers. Top is Chrome, where the underline is thicker and taller. Middle is Safari, which has a shallower wave and a thickness which matches the default underline. Bottom is Firefox, which is thinner and has hard 45-degree connections between the segments of the wave, rather than rounded ones
