#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.153 Haunted Hell House (NSW). A very low budget horror adventure game that can be finished in 30 minutes. But for 2 bucks it's totally fine and you can have fun with it. Not all games have to be masterpieces.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.152 Pocket Witch (NSW). A precision platformer, but this time with a halloween skin! The 30 stages of this game are pretty tough and the somewhat questionable controls don't help, but overall I had a good time. Just expect to die a lot.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.151 Kamaitachi no Yuro (SFC). Tanslation patch by ButThouMust. A creepy SFC visual novel, where a crazed murderer is brutally killing residents of a skilodge one by one and you are trying to survive / find the murderer. It's excellent. Highly recommended!

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.150 Otogirisō (SFC). Patch by DDS. Let's start off spooky month with my traditional yearly playthrough of this horror SFC visual novel. It's a really good game with a good spooky vibe and it's fun trying to get a different ending each time. Recommended!

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.149 Mystic Pathways (NSW). Flip and exchange tiles to create a path. These kinds of puzzle games are a dime a dozen, but that doesn't mean they aren't fun. The esthetic is nice and, except for the final five stages, isn't too tough. A little buggy, though.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.148 Lunar 2: Eternal Blue (PS1). The music and graphics are excellent, but the battles are very, very slow, which is very annoying. However, the story is pretty good and the characters are very charming, making this a worthwile time for sure. Check it out!

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.147 Rayland (NSW). A re-beat from a few years ago. Move and turn mirrors to have the lasers reach the targets. I love this game. It's not very long or very hard, but it's so much fun to play and it's a very chill experience. The sequel is also really good.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.146 Springbot - The Last Spark (NSW). It looks like a cute, easy platformer, and while it's definitly cute, it's anything but easy. Especially the final stretch is extremely frustrating and downright mean. Shame. I really wanted to like this game more.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.145 Foxy Rush (NSW). An autorunner platformer where you will die a lot in each stage. There are 64 short stages and are very satisfying to beat. The game controls well, has good music and the level layouts are pretty good. It's a fun time, go check it out.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.144 Froggy's Bouncing Adventures (NSW). A precision platformer with 60 small stages. It's nothing you haven't played before, but what it does, it does well. It also has a nice difficulty progression. It's never too too hard or too frustrating. Recommended.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.143 Fairytale Theatre - Momotaro's Adventure - (NSW). Another enjoyable budget title from Hunters, this time an action adventure. The main mechanic of beating a stage and getting a new ability is a lot of fun and for 2 bucks you can't really go wrong here.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.142 Mysterious Adventure of Michael (NSW). "Mom, I want Mario" "We have Mario at home!" [the Mario at home] Seriously though, this budget title is actually really fun. I've played more expensive titles that were way worse than this game.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.141 P-47 (NSW via Hamster). I found the game to be disappointing. It's pretty boring, with none of the spectacle you'd expect from an arcade game. Mechanically it's fine, but the garish color schemes and lackluster weapons and music make this one to avoid.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.139 Fairytale Fighters (NSW). Always wanted to beat up Snow White as Cinderella? Well, now you can with another budget title from Hunters! It's again silly and stupid and doesn't control all that well, but come on man, for 2 bucks, what's not to love?

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.138 Angel Symphony (NSW). A budget shmup in which you are an angel tasked to save the world. It's silly and stupid and the graphics and music probably come out of a stock database from somewhere in China. In other words, great fun and you should play it!

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.138 Rabbit Raid (NSW). A standard hop-and-bop platformer that isn't anything special. It controls pretty well, but the game doesn't provide much variety and is clearly aimed at a younger audience. Though for a chill experience, it does the job well enough.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.137 Puzzle Bobble (WS).The loop of the single music tune will drive you nuts and 100 stages is too excessive, but otherwise this is a very competent entry. The stages are quick and fun, and the use of different symbols, due to the lack of color, work well.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.136 Puzzle Bobble 3 DX (PS1). Naturally the game is good and a lot of fun, but I did find a lot harder than previous titles. Time is much more limited in this entry (or at least it felt so for me) and I definitely had some trouble on some of the stages.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.134 Bust-a-Move '99 (PS1). More Bust-a-Move! Why? Why not! It plays a little better than the N64 port (though that version was also pretty good). A fun time as always and the different route and stages options keep the action fresh.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.133 R•Type DX (GBC). Apart from the colors, this version is identical to the original title. However, it does feature a lot less slowdown, making it quite a bit harder. A great game nonetheless.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.132 R•Type II DX (GBC). Definitly harder than its predecessor, but still fairly manageable, especially after a couple of runs when you memorize the stages. It's a very neat game, with a good variety of stages and bosses. For sure recommended!

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.131 R•Type (GB). I've never beaten an R•Type game, until @gohobogo.bsky.social pointed me towards the doable GB ports. And yeah, this one is really fun! Lots of slowdown, but that actually helps. A second run needed for the true ending was annoying though.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.130 Super Bowling (SNES). I'd forgotten about this game, until @gohobogo.bsky.social reminded me of it. I used to rent this as a kid and liked it back then. While very light on content, it's a fun game (with different modes) that's also pretty forgiving.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.129 Bust-a-Move 4 (GBC). I took a different route, compared to the GBC beat from earlier. Just as fun as the GBC game, but the accuracy is much better in this version. You can't really go wrong with either, or any Bust-a-Move game for that matter.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.128 Bust-a-Move 4 (GBC). Accuracy remains a problem in these GBC ports, but otherwise it's great fun. The level variety is pretty good and I especially like the scale stages. Those make for some interesting strategies. Recommended!

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.127 Bust-a-Move Millenium (GBC). A fun entry, but pretty tough. The accuracy is not great, making it hard to place the balls. That's a problem, since a lot of levels start really low and accuracy (and speed) is key. Still, worth a play and one to check out.

Scaregon @kwrgon.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.126 Bust-a-Move Pocket (NGPC). This is one excellent entry. In controls really well and accurate and the focus on fast completion is fun. With 99 levels it's a bit excessive, but most of the stages can be finished in less than 20 seconds. Recommended!

Scaregon @kwrgon.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.125 Super Bust-a-Move (GBA). Not the best entry of the franchise. While the core gameplay is fun (obviously), the music is bland, the accuracy a little off, and the characters on the left weird and distracting. A big plus is the stage variety though.

Scaregon @kwrgon.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.124 Puzzle Bobble 2 (ARC). Once again a super fun game, though I liked it less than the first one. I found it to be much harder and the backgrounds can be distracting. The music is also a bit hit or miss. Still, for sure recommended!

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.123 Super Mario Land 2 (GB). Color patch by Toruzz. I played this game a ton as a kid. It still holds up, and it's one of the best platformers on the system. The color patch is nothing short of magic and is my recommended way to play this game nowadays.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.122 Puzzle Bobble (NSW via Hamster). The original Arcade game all those ports are based on. Not much to say about it other than it's a super fun game that controls really well and comes highly recommended.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.121 The Lord of King (NSW via Hamster). Known as The Astyanax in the West, I played this arcade two years ago. I liked it then and I still like it now. It's not the greatest Arcade game out there, but the solid combat is quicks and the bosses look cool.

Scaregon @kwrgon.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.120 Onion Boy+ (NSW). Why, oh, why do these budget games always have to crack up the difficulty to maximum on the final two stages? I was having fun, up until that point. Out of the 90 or so times I died, 85 were on the final two stages.

Scaregon @kwrgon.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.119 Great Greed (GB). While the music is average and the encounter rate pretty high, this is definitely one of the better turn-based RPG's on the system. Graphics are nice, the areas are varied and the gameplay is fast, as you assign spells to the D-Pad.

Scaregon @kwrgon.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.118 Knight Quest (GB). A simplistic, early GB RPG, that I quite enjoyed. It has some nice looking pixel art in battle and an unusual four-directional combat system, but the limited depth is a drawback. Still, the game is short and easy, so give it a go.

Scaregon @kwrgon.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.117 Magic Knight Rayearth 2nd: The Missing Colors (GB). Patch by Pearse Hillock. A charming, good looking, little RPG with a focus on puzzles, though repetitive combat and a slow pace make the short adventure feel more like a slog than it should.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.116 The Little Mermaid (GB). A port of the NES that I have played before. Once again a very good port of the original. The game is very short and easy but it plays and looks great. Not one of Capcom's greatest, but perfectly playable for half an hour.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.114 Parasol Henbee (GB). I played the NES game based on this IP a while ago and I'm pleased to say the GB game is also fun. Sure, it's short and very easy, but it plays well enough and it sure is charming. It won't wow anyone, but it's fine for what it is.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.113 Kung-Fu Master (GB). What you see is what you get: Walk to the right and punch guys in the face. That's pretty much it. Yeah, it's not great, but it's not bad either and it's pretty short, so why not give it a go if you have few minutes to spare?

Scaregon @kwrgon.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.112 Double Dragon (GB). I was actually surprised how good of a port this is. There are obvious limitations, but it plays really well, the graphics are nice and the difficulty is fair. With four stages, it doesn't overstay its welcome either. Recomended!

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.111 Ultraman Ball (GB). Patch by Inverse. A quirky platformer where you change into a ball to defeat enemies and destroy blocks. It's trickier than it looks due to the bounce mechanics. Levels are short and the game is pretty easy, but worth checking out!

Scaregon @kwrgon.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.110 Bonk's Adventure (GB). The music is average and I don't care for the typical boss rush at the end, but otherwise this is a very good game. Short and easy, but with great gameplay and a ton of charm. Just like its sequel, don't miss out on this one!

Scaregon @kwrgon.bsky.social · 04/08/2026
#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.109 The Smurfs' Nightmare (GB). The presentation is nice and it controls well. While the gameplay is fun, the biggest problem is that the game and stages drag on and it becomes very repetitive by the end. Still, I enjoyed it a lot more than the GB Smurfs 2

Scaregon @kwrgon.bsky.social · 03/08/2026
#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.108 Felix the Cat (GB). A port of the NES original. And just as the original, this is an excellent platformer! It's very easy, but the transformations as powerups are really fun, the controls are tight and the level variety is decent. Recommended.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.107 Obélix (GB). I had this game as a kid, but could never get past world 2. I'm glad I've now finally beaten it! Graphics and, especially, the music are very good. The platforming sections are very fun, but the special stages are super frustrating.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.106 Ducktales (GB). I played the NES original a ton, but never the GB port. As with Ducktales 2, this is a pretty good port. The SFX are a bit too loud, so it drowns out the music, which is a shame. Other than that, the game is excellent and recommended.

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.105 Ducktales 2 (GB). I had this game as a kid and I played it all the time back in the day. I was so proud when I finally managed to find all the treasures! While nowadays I probably prefer the NES original, there is no denying this is an excellent port!

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.104 Donkey Kong Country (GBA). This is an excellent port! The colors are washed out and the music takes a hit, but the added content such as the cutscenes, new map screens and improved boss fights make up for that. It plays really well too. Check it out!

#JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social No.103 Donkey Kong Country (GBC). A port of the SNES original, that is more faithful than Donkey Kong Land. Due to the smaller screen, the game is much harder than the SNES version, though. Hit detection can also be a bit off, but all in all a fine port.
