10 years ago, a local Del Taco's mis-spaced sign offering FRE SH A VOCA DO gained immortality as "Free sha-VA-ca-doo" on Vine (remember those?). Someone at the restaurant appears to be nostalgic for the meme, because it's back on the sign today. journal.kvibber.com/2026/06/free... #FreeShavocado

A square red DEL TACO sign stands on a post above two narrower signs, one with movable lettering and the other indicating that the 'DRIVE THRU' is open late. The custom sign between them reads 'FRE SH A VOCA DO'. Behind the sign it's a mottled sky, some white, some blue. A skinny tree tied to two support poles, with mostly empty branches (but a few leaves finally starting to bud), stands next to it. Cars can be seen on the road behind the signpost, and some low buildings across the way.

The other side of the sign. It's seen from a bit further away, so I used digital zoom and the image is a bit blurrier. The DEL TACO and drive-through (sorry, drive thru) signs look the same. At first it looks like the tree is missing, but it's just mostly hidden behind the signs. From this side the sky is a dull gray, and the sign reads 'FRE SH A GUACA MOLE' instead.

New hiking trail review on my website! Prickly Pear Trail at Alta Vicente Reserve ★★★★☆ Short loop with some steep sections. Lots of cactus. (Keep your balance!) Nice views of the ocean and Point Vicente Lighthouse. hyperborea.org/reviews/plac...

Narrow dirt trail going steeply down, paddle-like cactus immediately on each site. A tree or bush grows just past the cacti on the left. In the distance, past a brown field, trees, and a road, you can see the wide green grass of a golf course, a line of trees, a line of roofs, and beyond them the ocean and a blue sky.

A promonotory, roughly triangular or trapezoidal, with the ocean beyond it and a road curving along the near side, separating it from dry brown grass and low green scrub. The point is lined with bushes and dotted with palm trees. A handful of low white buildings with red roofs are scattered around, and a narrow lighthouse tower is just visible next to one of the palm trees.

A hill runs diagonally downward to the right, with low bushes nearby. In the middle distance is an expanse of green grass. Beyond it: several coves and promonitories with seaside cliffs, with a gentle hill sloping up to the left, the dark blue ocean looking calm below an empty blue sky.

Wrote up a quick review of a hiking trail Toulon Drive Loop In theory, this is a loop trail. It starts and ends as a dirt service road connected to a dead end, and runs along the top of a streambed for a while until it wraps around a chaparral-covered hill... hyperborea.org/reviews/plac...

A very narrow, very bright blue damselfly on a wooden board near the edge, seen from above and to the side, its long translucent wings folded back. Its eyes are two blue spheres attached to either side of its head, making the whole body look sort of like a T-pin.

Blue sky with small, scattered clouds in lines like ripples, above a hill with mostly brown scrub, but some green bushes.

A narrow plank sits loosely across a small stream. Green plants line both banks. On the far side, a trail continues through the bushes.

A dirt trail curves past low scrub brush toward a hillside on a sunny day. In the distance a handful of trees and the tops of two large water tanks are visible.
