Happy 25th anniversary to Kushiel's Legacy! This series helped shape my passion for dark elegance & subtle strength. I can finally share my tribute of a fan cover of CASSIEL'S SERVANT after spending many late nights on it. Thank you for this gift of inspiration @jacquelinecarey.bsky.social !🌹

A warrior wearing daggers at his waist and a longsword on his back crosses his forearms in a salute. His eyes are closed in a pensive pose as he stands resolute in his duty. Behind him, the woman he has sworn to protect, walks a path of broken glass into a golden window of thorny rose vines. The black tribal tattoo on her back marks her as a chosen of Kushiel. Pinpricks of red mark its blossoms.

The painting is rendered in grayscale with gold accents dotting the dust motes, floating feathers, and rose designs.

I have left the great desert of painting marble and entered the limbo of drawing rose briars. I've decided to fully render the rose briar panel even if it'll be mostly covered by a character because I think it'd make a pretty phone background.🌹 The painting journey continues between the seams!

I promise I AM making new art (outside of comms), but it's taking me forever b/c I'm really pouring my all into it and challenging myself to not give up on doing intricate bg details, materials texture, etc. I can feel the level up happening, but it means painting marble for hours.🙃 Have some WIPs!

Work-in-progress textures for a marble wall relief for a recent digital painting featuring swirly floral-inspired designs.

A work-in-progress peek at the main character of the cover art I'm working on for my Cassiel's Servant fan cover. Featuring a male warrior monk with his hair pulled back in a ponytail. He is armoured in metal bracers, chainmail, and a wool jerkin. He wears a londsword on his back. He stands in front of a stone relief of an archangel.

WIP Wednesday! What are you working on artists, writers, etc? I've decided midway through painting Joscelin from @jacquelinecarey.bsky.social's "Cassiel's Servant" that I'll redo the bottom half of the hero figure of this cover. Setting myself back a few hours, but it'll be worth it! 🥲 Yes indeed.

An in-progress painting of Joscelin, the warrior monk bodyguard who is the main character of Jacqueline Carey's "Cassiel's Servant". He wears two knives at his waist and a longsword on his back, a cloak billowing behind him. He is layered in chainmail and woolen cloth, his hair bound in a leather club. Feathers float around him.

A detail shot of the in-progress painting of Joscelin with a to-do list of work that still needs to be done which reads:

TO DO:
- Redo lower half
- Balance the values
- Find more material ref
- Ever more rendering ...
