The essence of an abusive relationship is entrapment. The abuser’s coercive control (in tandem with structural oppression) makes it so their victim *cannot* leave. The people who need to be pressured to leave relationships are abusers, not the victims who they entrap. The main message shouldn’t be “leave relationships that are controlling” (which focuses on a victim’s behavior) but “leave relationships you can’t maintain without being controlling.”

I find it infuriating that nations who for decades have profited off the exploitation of immigrant labour, who have indeed engineered the conditions for that exploitation through making the countries of origin nigh unliveable, now dare to turn around and call migrants a drain.
