Alexa has been more or less at a stand still use wise for years with the latest update it seems to me that the upgrade is more of a phase out do your old Amazon hardware than an actual upgrade. Suddenly my echo show has a new voice but cannot understand any commands and has to be told multiple times

It is such a bummer that Siri is not very good. Even when they added “Apple intelligence” it basically just asks “would you rather just ask ChatGPT?” And I know there is more to AI than just a Siri prompt, but it still feels awfully unfinished.

Everblog is the closest thing I’ve found and it may be my family solution, but it’s a smart calendar, watered down tablet that does some things. With likely no smart home features.

I’ve wanted a detachable tablet/smart home management device since the Google Pixel Tablet (about the time it was discontinued) and nowhere seems to have a suitable clone.

they had a loop of a phone center in the background to make it seem human, gave it a more “original” voice than what we are used to hearing with this type of thing and it was just so off putting and literally gave me the creeps. A normal person likely wouldn’t even know they were talking to a bot.

Ended up getting a female voice which I figured out in about five seconds this was a ChatGPT like entity: provide question, 2 second pause and instant accurate and full answer, to every question I had. It answered them well enough but…

So I just got off the phone with Verizon and spoke to the voice assistant which I typically have to end up yelling “REPRESENTATIVE” until it actually funnels me to a human becuase it is completely worthless. But this time it patched me through to an “agent” right away which was already suspicious…

You’re right about the primary source thing but I distinctly remember my teachers growing up treating Wikipedia like the plague and dumbification of the world. As if simply having easy access to information was a bad thing.
