I genuinely didn’t realize what a perilous moment it was until later. It was the 80s when this situation was played for laughs. (I’m looking at you Sixteen Candles 🤬). I called my essay Lucky with a hint of sarcasm but I really do feel lucky because so many women are not.

People opened the door and quickly closed it to give us “privacy” until my friend didn’t take no for an answer and got me up and out of there. The would be rapist stuck around the party for awhile eyeing me with anger.

I laughed it off at the time. “Wow, wasn’t that crazy. That guy sucked.” But I think back to that night. How I felt safe with this group of “friends.” How a bunch of them cleared out of the room I guess thinking that I, a very drunk high school girl, wanted to hook up with a stranger (college guy).

(TW sexual assault) I wrote an essay about a friend stopping a guy from sexually assaulting me when I was passed out drunk called “Lucky.” When stories like the Cornell 7 surface I think about how different my life would be had my friend not intervened.

I was primarily a bike commuter for years. A car accident (in a car, not on a bike) took me away from riding for several months so I had to rely on transit and I found that I liked it! Now I am mostly bike with a side of Trimet. We're lucky to have such robust public transit!

"John John Twilliger" by William Wondriska. The book didn't instill terror but it taught me that feared dictators--like the Machine Gun Man who is the baddie--are really just insecure short men who need a friend, a dog, and a chance to dance to be reformed. Harmful lesson? I LOVED this book.

I am a Portland Fire and Thorns season member. The Fire game where the anti-trans protesters picketed and (a few) attended was truly a bummer. The vibe was more than off. The transphobes were shown the door at the recent Thorns match. Grateful the NWSL policy was quickly enforced.
