I am back! Currently fighting to keep fees free across the motu. Nothing quite like hanging out with your besties and fighting for the shit that matters. UC is holding a rally on the C Block lawn at 12pm 28th of May. Be there! Join us! Be cool! #nzpols #feesfree #investinourfuture
Myself (ginger with short bangs in a long green coat and green plaid skirt) and a friend (split dyed hair black and red, short bangs in cargo shorts wearing a keffiyeh) holding signs aimed towards fees free Aotearoa. One says “Let us study” the other says “Winny P got fees free, invest in our futures” pictured outside on the University of Canterbury C Block lawn.

Have just found out about Special in Uniform. Created by the US, focused on integrating Israeli youth with a wide range of disabilities into the I0F. This is incredibly reminiscent of US presence in Vietnam. At least 1,000 of these soldiers are in the Army and Air Force.

Special in Uniform
The Israeli military has a secret weapon — a highly trained squad of elite soldiers that's entirely made up of disabled and autistic teens.
Special in Uniform is a Jewish National Fund-USA program that integrates young adults with disabilities into the Israel Defense Forces and, in turn, into Israeli society. Its core belief is that everyone belongs and has the right to reach his or her full potential.

why the idf?
The IDF is known as the people's army. The significance of this model is that beyond its military duty to ensure Israel's security, it also plays an important social role. It is a melting pot that brings together all sectors of Israeli society.
Over the years, this approach led to the formation of several IDF units for at-risk and delinquent youth in the process of rehabilitation.Website image reads:

What does it mean to adopt a unit
The Adopt a Unit program offers the incredible opportunity to support a unit of 20 soldiers in the Special in Uniform program, allowing you to connect directly with an entire unit. This, in many ways, is a microcosm of the full range of Special in Uniform's program. You see the personal touch, and how they are empowered to focus exclusively on the challenging journey of growing independently. The relationship within the IDF is a mutually beneficial one. For these young people, the unit is an opportunity to participate in a part of Israeli life that might otherwise be closed to them. And for the military, it's an opportunity to harness the skill sets these people have and their dedication to serve their country with love.
