Our gem of the week is @ktorn.bsky.social, a dev who sees that NFTs can do more to empower art. From Hicathon contributions to developing with Teia today. What sets him apart is the code based execution and the intention behind it, without truly seeing himself as an artist. teia.art/objkt/88917

I used to parrot that “art has, by definition, no utility”, but I’ve changed my mind. Art has a very specific utility: mental transportation. So it’s right up there with recreational drugs, and can be also addictive.

What I like the most about this piece is the complex behaviour that emerges from a very simple set of rules. Only 1 rectangle is actually drawn at any given time. The rest is a recursive set of reflections that create a looping trail of 'ghosts'. How long can you keep track of the original rect?

The 10s could be 100, 200, etc I think the objkt4objkt model works, and should be normalised rather than a seasonal event.

thanks for collecting! now you are a part of the artwork and it's a matter of time until the artwork reflects it! :)

ktorn @ktorn.bsky.social · 06/04/2025

thanks! there was a lot of blockchain-interactive "self-aware" art in the early days of HEN. trying to bring some of that back to Teia now! @teia.bsky.social

This is an evolving artwork: v3 -> v4 Teia OBJKT #856725

010

ktorn @ktorn.bsky.social · 04/04/2025

there's also an accidental "easter egg" if you click or tap the canvas. I forgot to remove that debug "feature" on this version 😅

100

ktorn @ktorn.bsky.social · 04/04/2025

v4 fixes that, and it also introduced a wooden frame around the canvas. I felt the need for an aesthetic change to justify the v4 label (otherwise it would have been v3.1) 😂

100

ktorn @ktorn.bsky.social · 04/04/2025

v3 introduced the code base that randomly selects a collector every day, based on the hash of the first Tezos block minted after 0:00 UTC that day. But it only did so when loading the page, so it wouldn't automatically do it again at 0:00 if the page remained loaded several days.

100

ktorn @ktorn.bsky.social · 04/04/2025

This makes v4 suitable for exhibitions. v2 was already exhibited in Vietnam at ArtTech Fusion 2024, but that was a static PNG.

110

ktorn @ktorn.bsky.social · 04/04/2025

Just minted v4 of "This is an evolving artwork". Now, every day at 0:00 UTC it automatically switches the name of the collector, without requiring a manual reload of the page.

I think that’s for initial bootstrapping (pubs and rooms are publicly accessible nodes). Then it uses github.com/ssbc/ssb-conn for p2p connections (at least in LANs or via other direct connections). This predated js-libp2p which would be a more obvious choice today.

That's cool. sounds like a similar concept to the ssb-browser project: github.com/arj03/ssb-br... There is a trove of potentially good info on it on ssb (#ssb-browser channel) that you may find useful. Always interested in playing with p2p projects. If you need testers happy to help!
