I'm creating a bookshelf quilt for my grandson, heading to college in a few years. Amongst the classics I've included several banned books, just to irritate my son in law, his ultraconservative dad

Quilt squares made to represent the sounds of books in a book shelf. With stitching of titles like Fahrenheit 451, The Grapes of Wrath, the Giver,etc.

I've been purging folders of my published manuscripts, placing only the final publication in two large ring binders for my heirs to page through and then throw away at some future date. One full file drawer has been emptied, one more to go. My life's work reduced to a binder.

Today's high here in Lancaster is supposed to be 102° F (39 C). For us old folks with afib, it means stay inside, but I need my walk. So, we walked at 6 am, only 75° and the air quality was so bad it felt like breathing split pea soup. Thanks climate change.

Yesterday volunteering for TaxAide, a senior couple looked foward to the $6000 checks from DJT, "We're going to fix up the kitchen!". I showed them the 1040. "It's just an addition to the standard deduction, to reduce your taxable income. You don't actually get that money, he was lying".

My husband and I volunteer for TaxAide, doing taxes for free for seniors. Seniors of moderate income have been surprised that their Social Security is still being taxed! I've gotten tired of explaining it gently. "He lied" is how I explain it now.

This morning I am thinking of Renee Good's wife and son, walking up to another day without her, seeing her things all around them, still in shock from the loss. My heart aches for them as they make funeral arrangements and try to imagine a future without her. ❤️

Volunteered at a local food shelf this morning. Observations: We didn't have eggs or single disposable razors. Both were requested. People didn't take much of the available fresh produce. First timers take less food and are more cautious & appreciative. Happy holidays folks!

These days its easy to only see the awfulness of America. But as an older woman, I see people quietly helping each other. Not in big ways, but in little daily actions. Little things add up. We can do better as a nation, by starting with our neighbors, by recognizing that Everyone is our neighbor.
