Just made tea with some of the lemongrass from my garden, and oh my god it is so fresh and zesty, why did I wait so long to do this* 🍵🍋😌 Cut a few stalks into one inch pieces, steep in boiling water for 15 minutes, and then **inhale** ahhhhh *probably […] [Original post on indieweb.social]

Saw this little guy today (okay, not so little) and took a bit to realize it had a huge tackle in its beak! I got closer to see if it was hooked / tangled or just very partial to this fish-shaped piece of trash. It didn’t seem to be in distress and flew off […] [Original post on indieweb.social]

Lots of cone flowers in my small but mighty container garden, plus not-yet-blossoming swamp milkweed. Best thing about it is they come back every year and need very little maintenance aside from watering and occasional deadheading. #bloomscrolling #pollinators #gardening
An array of pink and white cone flower (aka echinacea) blooms in various stages growing out of dark grey containers. There are swamp milkweed stems and a variety of other green growing things. The scene is warmly lit by the setting sun.

And 3. Saw a horseshoe crab in the far end of the Reserved Channel! Never seen one here before, and probably wouldn’t have spotted it had the tide and sun not been just right. They can really move! #boston
A hazy shot of a horseshoe crab in shallow murky water, seen from behind. The telson (tail thing) is barely visible.

Anyone else in the #boston area noticing an uptick in dead / dying trees this spring? This one on Newbury St just now, but in Seaport and Southie it seems like every other one. Just me? Something more localized? It’s really depressing 😔🌳
30-40 foot tall tree on an urban sidewalk. It has no leaves, some large broken branches, and lichen all over the trunk. There are brick buildings in the background.

Also got visited by a cardinal on our deck! The usual visitors are pigeons, gulls, and the occasional starling or robin. Finches are rare, and the cardinal was a first. I am a dork for nature 🤓
Cardinal perched on a deck rail, viewed from the side. Its body plumage is a muted red, so it’s either an immature male or a female. Cool either wayCardinal sitting on the turf floor of a deck, peeping through the grass.

Today is a true spring day, so we went on a hike in the Middlesex Fells. Saw an amusing mushroom, a lady’s slipper (!), and some very happy dogs (not pictured)
Bright green trees with rain-damp trunks on the shore of a still pond. The pond reflects the woods, so the image appears mirroredA pink lady’s slipper nestled amongst ground cover on the forest floor. It is sculptural and somewhat delicate looking, as orchids tend to beTwo beige mushrooms, not sure what kind, on a grey tree trunk. The one on the left has a sort of happy, dough boy face. It reminds me of a muppet and it is very good.

While debarking I saw a lady with a cool button on her jacket and I told her I liked it. Then she gave it to me! Made my day. Be good.

Cruised around Boston Harbor today and saw some winter wildlife, including seals, scoters, eiders, and a snowy owl (!). Phone camera not suited to that task but the scenery in general was very moody and cool. Thankful it was a “warm” 30ish degrees on the water.
“The Graves,” a grey lighthouse in the outer harbor on dark ice-covered rocks. The ocean is a dark grey blue and the sky is a wall of clouds. Hard to see but there are sandpipers and other birds in the water and on the rocks.

In the past few months there’s a Statie who’s been parking in creative aka illegal parking spots around my neighborhood. Blocking fire hydrants, pedestrian crossings, you know. I and others have repeatedly reported the issue; no one will be surprised that […] [Original post on indieweb.social]
A photo of two red and white street signs. The top sign says “TOW ZONE NO STOPPING ANY TIME” and the sign below it has a fake (?) piggy nose, beneath which says “PARKING (left arrow) ONLY”. So like, pig parking only. It’s very good.

Loving these post thunderstorm clouds. No hail here but the southeastern sky was starting to look a wee bit green. Very dramatic watching the planes take off with this as the background! #boston #mawx
A towering dark cloud on the left illuminated by the setting sun (not shown) on the right. Blue sky is beginning to appear. The cloud is grey brown and yellow and imposing. A barely visible airplane (livery unclear) takes off in front of it. A wide angle photo of storm clouds receding to the southeast (bottom of the frame). Towards the bottom the color is dark brown grey and ominous. The setting sun makes the rest of the cloud shine pink and gold. A hint of blue sky is visible at the top. A British Airways plane takes off in front of a particularly stormy looking wall of clouds. The cloud wall is a muddled, ombre grey brown, darker at the top.

Beautiful day here. Went out for an early walk along the beach before it got busy but could’ve stayed longer, it’s so pleasant out. Saw lots of dragonflies and a number of tern nesting sites. #boston #southie #beach
A view of the beach and water. It’s a cloudless day. The Harbor Islands are on the horizon. The water glitters from the sun, and numerous boats bob on the surface. There is a silhouette of a person sitting on the beach just in front of a sand dune. Numerous pale violet flowers (unsure of species - maybe a type of aster?) bloom from tall stalks rising out of the sand dunes. Behind, out of focus, is the beach and the water line.

While running errands today, spied these messages in a doorway by Kings Terminal #Southie “Sometimes in life you have to do things you don’t want to do That’s what life is One fuckn vile task after another” “I know Everything happens For a reason But what the fuck”
A black doorway on the side of a brick building. Sticker lettering on the door reads “115K” and “common space emergency exit (not an entrance)”

Above the doorway are red stenciled letters (description in the next image)

To the right of the doorway, a white column is attached to the wall. It’s in rough shape and the paint is peeling. On the column, black stenciled letters read

“I know
Everything happens
For a reason

But what the fuck”The top of a white doorframe on the outside of a brick building. Red stenciled letters read:

“Sometimes in life you have

This guy is thoroughly unimpressed by my neighbor’s bird spikes
A rock dove or pigeon perches on a deck railing, several stories up, just in front of a strip of bird spikes. Its tail rests over the spikes. More spikes loom on the railing above it. The bird is looking towards the camera.

Even more jellies drifting about today, around the Summer St bridge over the channel. They seemed to be concentrated around the current (ofc). The orange topped one was huge! Still so cool! 🤓 #boston #marinelife

Today was (is!) a lovely day to walk to the #Boston Public Market, eat a donut, buy many bready things, and then come back and lounge on the deck with a book
Fresh fish, clams, and mussels sit on ice in a food stall display. I don’t eat meat or fish but there’s just something about fresh fish at a market, y’know?A diverse array of breads and pastries in another food stall. Signs advertise wondrous things like “dream cookie” and “pizza roll.” A rainbow flag is also on display.

An image from Pedro Gómez-Egaña’s installation The Great Learning. A series of walls with openings, as frames, recedes into the distance. Each wall/frame forms a series of rooms, many of which are exactly the same down to the last detail. Each room slice is part of someone’s living space: a kitchen, a sitting room, a bedroom. In the image, a simple clock hangs on one of the wall/frames. A drawing and a jar of pens/pencils sits on a table. This scene repeats across several wall/frames. They are like liminal spaces. A simple street (alley) scene in Beacon Hill. Tidy brick buildings line either side of a puddle-y, narrow alley. Flower boxes and a flag decorate the front of one building. To the left in the distance, a few trees have begun to display early spring buds.

Foreground of snowy and sandy beach. Background of deep blue water, with islands on the horizon. A white boat with a stowed sail rests on the water. A seagull swoops over it. A beach at very low tide. The sand is wet and strewn with pebbles. A wooden jetty is in the distance. A lone seagull rests on the water. The same beach at very low tide. A decaying wooden ramp, probably a boat launch, is exposed in the muck surrounded by rocks and shells. The water is calm and the sky above it is clear blue.
