In the garden today… Peach blossoms, Butterfly Magnolia, serviceberry blossoms and a sneaky snail up my Cortland apple tree! It’s been so nice watching as the garden comes alive again. This winter felt very long 😓 #garden #gardening #spring #backyardgarden #ontario

the milkweed motel is open :) 🐛

An illustration of little trinket houses amongst narrow leaf milkweed with critters around such as the large milkweed bug, cobalt milkweed beetle, monarch butterflies and monarch caterpillars. The atmosphere is light and spring-colored.

Recently I have been looking at photos of our garden, eagerly awaiting those warmer spring days when I can go out - feet to earth - and harvest bits and bobs for our meals. This illustration gives me a similar feeling of wistful longing. Reminder to self — sowing days are approaching 🫑 🍅 🥬

Like a lot of folks, we're hiding from social media a bit and scurrying in here when our brains can handle it. A bit like elusive little chipmunks in the forest. But we hope that our artwork can bring a some joy to your lives! 🐡🎨

Filling my brain with inspiring art based on winter landscapes ❄️ I am working on an illustrated calendar (more info on that soon), and the first few spreads are based in winter. I’m trying to push past the reflex of painting snow *white* and instead using purples, pinks, oranges, yellows and blues.

Something I don't see creatives talk about so much is the crushing letdown and depression that can follow finishing up a huge project that has consumed you. Like you are suddenly cut adrift with no purpose. Got to reach for a lifeboat. That next thing...

Does anyone else ever take countless screenshots of inspiring things during the day — with the intention of actually *doing* something with them — but your brain immediately forgets that you’ve taken them?

This year I will be focussing on my picture book BUT I am terrible at drawing people… Plants & animals? I can draw those all day long. To help myself improve I am getting back into the habit of using my sketchbook. Today’s exercise is statues from the Classical Era ✨ #illustration #art #kidlit
