Look at this weird sunflower 🌻 in my garden. I didn’t have it in me to garden this year but I did have so many volunteer sunflowers, clover, and cat mint.

A 14-year-old Montana cowboy grabbed his rodeo lariat and sprinted into the Yellowstone River to save a drowning man, and caught him on the very first throw.

The sharp-tailed grouse were dancing and scrapping at the lek right on cue this morning at Benton Lake NWR. It was vastly entertaining. We counted 35 grouse! And, the meadowlarks were singing as we left.

I know I mention this all the time, but our local paper literally won a Pulitzer in the early 2000s, and now they don't even pay for AP, their "newsroom" is a usually empty small office, and I think they officially have 3 employees.

Happy #MountainMonday #Sunrise from Glacier National Park #imageandverse #nationalparks #BlueskyMonday #artyear #Scape Joy is not a visitor here; it belongs to the mountains and comes upon us when we stop resisting them. -Muir
This image depicts a quiet pre-dawn sunrise viewed from the shore of Bowman Lake in Glacier National Park, looking toward Rainbow Peak.

The scene is vertically expansive, with the sky occupying most of the image. The sky is layered with clouds that glow softly from below, illuminated by the sun before it becomes visible. Colors shift gradually from deep blue and violet at the upper portion of the sky to warmer tones—muted pinks, pale oranges, and faint reds—closer to the horizon. These colors are not sharp or harsh; instead, they blend smoothly, giving the impression of light spreading slowly rather than bursting forth.

Below the sky, Rainbow Peak rises as a dark, solid silhouette. Its shape is angular and steep, with sharp ridgelines that cut distinctly into the glowing clouds behind it. Because the sun has not yet reached the mountain, the peak appears almost entirely black, with no visible surface detail—only its outline defines its presence. The mountain feels tall, imposing, and still, as if holding the night in place for a moment longer.

At the base of the mountain, Bowman Lake lies flat and calm. The water is smooth and reflective, mirroring the sky’s colors in softer, slightly blurred bands of blue, pink, and pale gold. The lake surface appears undisturbed, suggesting complete stillness—no visible ripples or waves. The shoreline is dark and indistinct, merging gently with the water, reinforcing the sense that land and lake are quietly waiting for daylight.

I read about 90 books this year, fewer than last year but lots of thick ones. I worked in a lot of Africa and France books and did the Taylor Swift reading challenge (a bingo square playing off themes from her music). These were my favorites:
