It's Orange Order central. The town's traffic lights infamously have grilles to protect the green lights because they were repeatedly smashed.

Finally got to Anstruther on Saturday. Between being ill at the start of the year then fighting an election, it's a very delayed start to the travel season!

Good to have gotten back to the bus archives today. Here's East Kilbride in a Trans-Clyde bus map, c.1980. How many bus routes we've lost since then!

Protecting our local biodiversity is crucial. The native fauna and flora around us aren't just scenery—they are the foundation of a healthy ecosystem. We must be mindful stewards of our land to ensure our wildlife has the space to thrive.

My 12 years working in libraries have shown me they are vital community hubs that foster a lifelong love of reading. Closing local branches is a false economy - the long-term cost to a society that lacks readers will always outweigh any short-term budget savings.

40 years after deregulation, the private market has failed us. We must bring our buses back into direct public ownership! By taking control, we can use the profits from busy routes to restore lost community services and invest in better infrastructure, not line shareholder pockets.

With internet shopping permanently shifting retail, the old model isn't returning. We must reimagine our town centre by repurposing empty units for local small businesses and building a publicly-owned civic hub to bring community and culture back to the heart of East Kilbride. #eastkilbride

We cannot encourage walking, wheeling, and cycling while neglecting the essential infrastructure that makes it possible, safe, and reliable. Sustainable stewardship means prioritising the maintenance of our existing paths and underpasses. #eastkilbride #scotland

To deliver the 80,000 new homes Scotland urgently needs over the next five years, we need a bold strategy that combines a new generation of carefully planned New Towns with smart, high-density infill housing built directly around existing transport hubs & community amenities. #scotland #eastkilbride

By establishing a fully state-owned national energy company, we can harness Scotland’s massive renewable potential to lower bills for every household. Every penny of surplus will be reinvested back into our infrastructure and our communities to ensure a secure, affordable, and green future for all.

Spent all day yesterday in productive negotiations that delivered a better severance process for University staff and has hopefully averted planned strike action. What Higher Education really needs though is a proper funding settlement that doesn't leave Unis educating Scottish students at a loss!

Scotland currently has the largest and most centralised local authorities in Europe. We need to revitalise our local democracy by creating smaller, more localised councils that return power and accountability directly to the towns and neighborhoods they serve. #scotland #eastkilbride

It’s time to end the failed experiment of deregulation and bring our buses back into full public ownership to serve people, not profit. By cutting fares and integrating our network, we can tackle the cost of living while making sustainable, public transport the natural choice for every journey.

I like to keep on top of the litter around my little patch, it's quite easy once you've gotten started as there isn't really that much new litter. At least until windy weather like at the weekend there blows a whole new collection in for me. 😂

We need a national strategy to protect urban greenspaces. As a New Town, East Kilbride was designed with integrated greenspaces to enhance active travel and quality of life. While housing is greatly needed, treating our parks and playing fields as a land bank waiting to be paved over is not the way!
