I told you that you were good at this, lol!! Nicely done!! Until next time, countdown-buddy! :-)

Stephanie M. Krause @krausemouse.bsky.social · 11/12/2025

I ended up with a very (not very) respectable 10 points on the #XPNcountdown #CoverSongCountdownScoreCard but it was a really fun, crazy week to listen to some deep cuts & great music. Thanks, #WXPN. If you're not a member, WHY NOT? If you are, send a thank you donation if you can. Until next year.

Whoa, an upset! I was for sure Johnny Cash would take #1. I'm not "Hurt" that it's gotta be Jimi with "All Along The Watchtower"... #XPNcountdown

Oof! I slept on Whitney's "I Will Always Love You". I don't know how I forgot that this one hadn't been played yet. It's been a LONG week. Cover song ROYALTY. #XPNcountdown

Also, I'm SHOCKED this didn't crack the top 10 for all it's consistent airtime when NOT doing a cover song countdown.

This live Nirvana Bowie-cover is GREAT. Has always been great. All I ever hear is that sound eff-up from the live broadcast... #facepalm #SoundCheck #XPNcountdown

Lauryn Hill's "Killing Me Softly" is one of the only worthy contenders to come AFTER "Proud Mary"... I was not into R&B or rap at all when I was in HS, and this even turned my head. Something special about it. #XPNcountdown

I'd love to get to hear Tori Amos's cover of Led Zeppelin's "Thank You" it was my #2. I'd love to hear Brandi Carlile's "Sixty Years On" which was my #1 as well, honestly. ;) Grace Potter doing White Rabbit and Joss Stone's God Only Knows would also be wonderful. I'll be listening, either way. <3

You know what’s wild that I can share now with y’all? 16 different covers of Love Will Tear Us Apart got votes, none made #xpncountdown - same with 15 versions of I’m on Fire, 14 God Only Knows, 12 Wicked Games, 11 Purple Rains, 10 Enter Sandmans… lot of great songs, no definitive cover! xpn.org

Damn. Guess that leaves out Joss Stone's 'God Only Knows' as my dark horse. ;) What a great cover, though. <3

There's not a lot that should go above Me & Bobby McGee. But there are somehow 17 more tunes that do... We can talk about it. But still love that Cake cover... and more than I love "Sweet Jane"...

RETURN OF CAAAAAKKEEEE!!! Huzzah! What a rad cover. Also happened to be on my list. <3 'I Will Survive' (even if I don't get any more points in the countdown)! #XPNcountdown

THERE we go... Cracking the top 20: Janis & Bobby McGee <3 <3 <3 Cover or no, just an all-time, all-time favorite. #XPNcountdown

Also near-perfection. This song is just lovely, and Billy is an always-favorite. <3

Also, oops! I forgot we heard Brandi's at 501!

Stephanie M. Krause @krausemouse.bsky.social · 11/12/2025

Like, I'm listening at work without headphones, so trying to keep it low. I literally thought parts of it sounded like there was an actual fly buzzing around the office. I thin GnR is a *great* rock band, I just wish they hired (almost) anyone but Axl to sing for them. 😅

110

Stephanie M. Krause @krausemouse.bsky.social · 11/12/2025

OH, I thought kd's Hallelujah would be in the top 10. Brandi maybe, though... I always like Rufus's, but may be in the minority there. Regardless, I don't think we are done with this tune yet... #XPNcountdown

Stephanie M. Krause @krausemouse.bsky.social · 11/12/2025

Meh. While musically, I actually think this cover is great (and many GnR tunes, honestly), I *can't stand* Axl Rose vocals. CAN'T STAND. Who let that housefly into the studio? I'd rather listen to Bob, and that's saying something, heh. #XPNcountdown

Yes. This. This is what I wanted. The Chicks deliver a spectacular cover of "Landslide" <3 #XPNcountdown

I'd have voted for it if I remembered Across the Universe tunes would qualify!! Love love love that tune and that flick so much!

Stephanie M. Krause @krausemouse.bsky.social · 11/12/2025

I knew this one was coming, but I wasn't EXCITED about it showing up, especially in top 100.

Stephanie M. Krause @krausemouse.bsky.social · 11/12/2025

Wilson Pickett closing it even further with #75!

At least The Chicks made it an interesting genre change.

Cue: GIRLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN WAS A *COVER*?!!? #XPNcountdown ;)

0100

Stephanie M. Krause @krausemouse.bsky.social · 11/12/2025

This is fine, but I was hoping more for The Chicks' cover of "Landslide" - I've never been fond of Smashing Pumpkins' vocals, and they are a bit abrasive for this particular tune that means so much to me (and so many). #XPNcountdown

Summer Breeze is such a chill song. My top version of it, even beyond the original Seals & Crofts, is actually Jason Mraz's cover, doling out the beachy vibes. If I'd remembered it when I did my top 10, I probably would have included it. #XPNcountdown
