Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 07/01/2026Wow, I'm surprised by the price. I thought for sure it would be at least twice of what they're charging. I think I may need one of those. 😄 110
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 06/01/2026It's still open here at 6:45pm local. Lot's of signals on FT8 and a few on SSB. 010
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 06/01/2026I just made a good bunch of SSB QSOs on 6m. You may have to tune around a bit between 50.125 and 50.200 MHz. Since the 818 doesn't have a band scope you may miss a string signal higher up the band while the calling frequency may be dead. When 6m is open a vertical should work just fine. 100
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 06/01/2026I didn't expect to see an opening like this over here either at this time of the year. I'll see if I can push the Es cloud a bit in your direction. 😄 120
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 06/01/2026Just in case you weren't aware yet, 6m is open in North America. #Hamradio #AmateurRadio #hamr #6m #FT8 360
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 04/01/2026It doesn't look like it, but I worked my best DX on 70cm today. My signal traveled 448,000 miles, or 717.000km, to cover a distance of just 149 miles (238km) for my first EME QSO. 😀 000
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 25/12/2025I'm surprised they still use that range of frequencies. I don't know what would be a good FM receiver for that range. I just got a DJ-X100T a few weeks ago that seems to work very well (got it for RX of DMR/DSTAR/C4FM) and has decent audio but I'm not sure how well it receives the VHF low bands. 000
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 25/12/2025My wife got me a new FM rig for KR1STmas! 😂 #hamradio #hamr #AmateurRadii 040
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 20/12/2025I got the 80th and final edition of the WRTH book in the mail yesterday. So sad it will not appear in print anymore. #AmateurRadio #Hamradio #hamr #SWL #ShortWave 000

Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 18/01/2025Thanks! I couldn't believe it was still available when I got it 25 or so years ago. 110

Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 16/12/2024Yeah, we saw that too! My wife and I play Connections and Spelling Bee pretty much every day. Hamradio has also appeared in the Spelling Bee game before I think. 000
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 16/12/2024After lunch with some former university coworkers in downtown Scranton I decided to do an impromptu #POTA activation this afternoon from the Steamtown National Historic Site, US-0864. #hamradio #AmateurRadio 060
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 15/12/2024Looks like it keeps transmitting the same image on every pass. 010
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 14/12/2024I don't know at what times you are trying to work MS, but late evenings and early mornings are the best times here. During the day the Geminids are below the horizon so I'd hear very little MS. 010
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 14/12/2024SONATE-2 SSTV (Martin 1) images as received on 145.880 MHz at the 20:09UTC pass this afternoon. I was too late to correct the slant on the first image, but was able to do so on the second image. Something hosed up the transmission of the 2nd image. No interference. #hamradio #AmateurRadio 020
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 14/12/2024Very nice!! I will see what I can receive on the 20:09 UTC/ 3:09pm EST US East Coast pass this afternoon. Hopefully I set it all up OK. 110
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 14/12/2024To find out where to look in the sky for meteors, or where to aim your beam for #MeteorScatter, try the old Virgo app (Windows and Linux) maintained by DB1BM and DL8AAU: www.dl1dbc.net/Meteorscatte... You do have to enter your grid every time you start it, unfortunately. #hamradio #AmateurRadio 183
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 13/12/2024It's a rockin' night on 2m! I just worked KB8W (751mi, 1202km) on 2m Meteor Scatter (144.150MHz, MSK144). #hamradio #AmateurRadio 260
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 03/12/2024LOL! I bet you do get a lot of requests like that. 😄 These F2 openings, like we also had to the west coast and Europe last week, are so nice because we don't have to compete with stations that are a hop closer during a multi-hop Es opening. Signals are a lot stronger too. 010
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 03/12/2024Ah, that was you on the other side! Awesome! It was so good to finally see Alaska on 6m. So often I've seen propagation stretching into your direction only to abruptly drop after working a few stations in BC. This time it just opened to AK out of the blue. Funny band 6m. 😄 110
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 02/12/2024I didn't organize this or had anything to do with the educational aspect of it. I just happened to learn this morning that this school contact was going to happen and decided to record it since I had the day off anyway. 😄 020
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 02/12/2024This is a recording I just made of the #ISS school contact with Woodland Middle School in South Carolina today: youtu.be/J_K_woB1aaQ The excellent questions the students asked are in the description of the video. #ARISS #hamradio #AmateurRadioyoutu.beWoodland Middle School ISS Contact 12-02-2024YouTube video by The Ham Lab 1133
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 25/11/2024It's really cool to see how they built the rhombic antennas back then and also the hardline made from tubes. 000
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 25/11/2024If you notice that it seems like the pi-star dashboard stops displaying Gateway Activity and Local RF Activity but is otherwise working just fine, check the disk usage of /var/log. If it's at 100% check the FileLevel logging for the gateways and make sure it's set to 0 and reboot. #hamradio #hamr 082
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 22/11/2024It's snowing alright! youtube.com/shorts/1-ckq... That explains why the SWR on my antennas are slightly less than ideal tonight. 😄 #hamradio #AmateurRadioyoutube.comSnow Covered Antennas 11/21/2024YouTube video by The Ham Lab 020
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 21/11/2024I hear ya! I also have only 3 elements on 6m. I was going to put 5 elements up this summer, but life got in the way. Maybe next year. I too prefer 2m and 70cm over 6m, but there's just not that much activity on those bands, so I often hang out on 6m while checking for activity on the other bands. 010
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 21/11/2024I see we worked each other on 70cm and 2m, but never on 6m for some odd reason. 😄 100
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 21/11/2024Wow, that's awesome!! Congratulations! The one time I'm not paying attention and there's 2m tropo to XE. Ugh! I saw that Stan, W3XTT, worked it too. 100
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 21/11/2024Ah cool! You can search for hamradio feeds that someone has already built by clicking on the # symbol in the app or website. Just now I added the Amateur/ Ham Radio feed by AD6G and that seems to contain only hamradio stuff. Of course I now want to know how to create my own feed. 😄 110
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 21/11/2024I was wondering if you can filter posts by keywords on here, but I'm not seeing it. It would be nice if you could set things up so you only see posts with specific #-tags. Maybe you can do these things, but I'm too much of a BS noob to know. 😄 110
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 20/11/2024I don't collect wallpaper but do upload my log to QRZ and LOTW for those that do. However, I do send QSL cards at times still, especially if I know the other station is a new ham, or someone returning to the hobby. It's just to send a friendly "hello" and that I appreciate them joining us (again). 010
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 20/11/2024Shoot! I may have been ignoring the wrong satellite. 😂 000
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 20/11/2024I thought it was only activated over South America, or am I confusing it with a different satellite? Anyway, very nice you got to work 'em! 100
Alex KR1ST/PA1ST @kr1st.bsky.social · 19/11/2024Me neither, but it's on the list of things to try. 010
