I need to say a few words about Darren. He was, in many ways, the doctor all doctors needed to be. Compassionate, caring, an advocate and a poet. We were all privliged to have him in our world. And we are poorer for his departure from it. Wherever you are, I hope there are paddles and pedals.

Good stuff here from @picardonhealth.bsky.social Vaccination is something we do to create a public good, herd immunity. I think he’s also right about framing this as a child welfare issue www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti...

Opinion: Personal beliefs do not supersede the public good – and vaccination is a public good
Ontario’s vaccine exemption is ridiculous, especially when it comes to protecting children

To decide to become an advocate ask “Is it fair?” And it’s is this unfairness that drives @anguspratt.bsky.social to be an advocate for lung cancer and patients in Canada. But it is his vulnerability that makes his advocacy so powerful. With @picardonhealth.bsky.social. @afmc-ca.bsky.social

“Canadians tell us they need a family doctor. They need that ongoing care. And that is really important—not only to deal with health issues we already have, but to prevent future ones.” @jossreimer.bsky.social on why primary care must be a top priority in the upcoming federal election.

Can we use this another moment to talk about the outrageous cost of medical licensing exams in Canada? I paid >10k in exam fees as a Canadian trained physician. I, like most of my peers, used loans to pay for these. How about we reduce the cost for all? www.vernonmorningstar.com/community/uk...

Right now too many Canadians can't access the health care they need. Increasing the mobility of doctors across the country will meet the demands and staffing needs of our critically under-resourced health care system while improving patient outcomes. www.cma.ca/about-us/wha...

This report lays out the stark reality of Canada’s HHR Crisis. “There is currently a deficit of 22,823 between supply and demand for family physicians in Canada, and only approximately 1,300 new graduates per year. At this rate, Canada will never solve the existing physician shortage.”
