The AI model branding is just silly now. "Gemini 3.5 Flash" pricing is closer to "pro" 3.0 than Flash 3.0. And not by a little bit. I'd compare it to "3.1 Flash Lite", but what do these brand names even mean? TBF, Anthropic and OpenAI do the same, but they're meaningless and harmful.

Actual pic from an apartment listing. It feels like AI, but it could also just be a terrible photoshop. Maybe a cheap 3d scan thing. Either way, is this helping the sale?

I really like Goose, but this article is silly: venturebeat.com/technology/c.... I tried to do a "detailed" skim to see where it explained that a local model isn't going to be anywhere near as capable as a frontier model. Nope. The implication is that the $200 is for the tool. It's not.
venturebeat.com
Claude Code costs up to $200 a month. Goose does the same thing for free.
Goose, Block’s open-source AI coding agent, is emerging as a free alternative to Anthropic’s Claude Code, as developers weigh offline control, rate limits, and the rising cost of AI coding tools.

Spent a lot of time with family this holiday season, exposing Eve to everything Christmas. If you actually count up the gifts of the "Twelve days of Christmas", and take the words literally, thats 184 birds, 140 people, and 40 rings. Your "true love" is an aristocratic stalker. Run.

Pro tip for Android dev with AI agents. Don't let them edit Gradle. They'll rip out the wiring before checking the circuit breaker when trying to fix something. Hopefully the Android Studio agent has some better tooling than stock agents. www.youtube.com/live/0vMDXa2... (updates look really nice)

Love AI agents, hate AI agents. They can be fun. (It did seem to think about that longer than I imagine it would have with "Yes", but we'll never know...)

Sometimes I'm amazed dogs have survived. Just found out onions are toxic to dogs. Onions, garlic, chocolate, almonds, various other nuts, on and on. Ours seems to be sensitive to chicken. Any time I'm about to break down and give him some of my food, quick check, and nope. Something's toxic.

This sounds like a simple question, but you'd be surprised. Does anybody have a good recommendation of over-ear bluetooth headphones that have absolutely no noise-cancelling tech? Or at least, you can definitely turn it off?

JPMorgan predicted a foldable iPhone coming. I tried to have AI create a list of a similar predictions for each year since the rumors started. That was more frustrating than I wanted to deal with. But, summary, that prediction has been coming like clockwork since 2016. But this time I'm sure!

The new agent in Android Studio is enabled in yesterday's canary build! This build doesn't have all the tools hooked up that I showed in the I/O demo last week (agent here: youtu.be/KXKP2tDPW4Y?...), such as the Gradle awareness -- and it also doesn't have the Upgrade Agent yet. Hopefully soon!

The AI tooling landscape is kind of a mess. I was having really good luck with the new VSCode Copilot agent, until I decided to evaluate actually paying for Copilot and maybe making it the default for the team. Result? Agent no longer lets you choose models. Paying for it drops functionality.

I spent some time with GPT 4.1 yesterday. Surprisingly good, but Gemini 2.5 is really good, and my current go to. Sonnet 3.7 is also really good. It'll be interesting to see if the next gen do anything really meaningfully better, or if this becomes incremental improvement.

Not a UX expert, but if I was going to put a small button that a user might frantically try to click when they see Cursor's agent going off the rails, it *probably* wouldn't be in the exact spot where a button that will remove all of your changes, without confirmation, might suddenly appear.

We'll see how all this AI coding stuff plays out in reality. I've been very deep-diving lately (MCP party). But, if nothing else, the thought of never needing to write a regex again is pretty comforting.

Tip to Anthropic. I have Claude doing refactors, and it regularly runs out of context. When I clear and reload, it phrases errors and issues as things I've done. I guess that's technically true, but it gets old. Example phrasing, if it helps: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JVJ...

I asked Claude how likely it thought its own refactor would be successful. I appreciate the honesty. "Based on my analysis of the codebase and our progress so far, I'd give this refactoring effort a moderate chance of successful completion - around 60-70%." Git is your friend, friend.
