The unfortunate insectoids who entered the monolith's hidden chamber emerged from the dark caverns forever altered, capable of critical, strategic, and intelligent thought and self awareness. Whatever the black monument did to them left them profoundly uplifted—but also deeply vengeful.

Though what transpired next remains a complete mystery to the historians and scholars who have attempted to decipher these events, the outcome was unmistakable.

While awaiting death in the deep, dark depths of the ruined city, one Selenite stumbled upon an unnatural pillar—a monolithic, ebony-black rectangular slab resembling polished obsidian. He soon brought the remaining Selenites to witness this mysterious object.

....they were left to die from their severe "research-inflicted" physical trauma and starvation. Yet, this was not the end for the insectoids.

When the scientists finally concluded their work, the surviving Selenites were relocated en masse to the now-lifeless, derelict underground cities of the extinct Pu’zah people. Tossed away, out of sight and out of mind...

The Selenites were butchered, burned, dismembered, and bled simply to determine how long it would take for them to expire; others were injected with virulent diseases just so the scientists could witness the agonizing effects.

Among their most tragic targets were the simple-minded, insectoid Selenites, captured en masse for the research and experimentation of Lunirean scholars. These uncaring seekers of knowledge subjected the bugs to horrific torment under their knives, pursuing insight by any means necessary.

Millions were devoured, and the few who managed to flee to the surface were easily picked off by the awaiting Lunirean Guard. Furthermore, they subdued and enslaved the Winged Bloodsuckers, robbed them of their higher brain function and utilizing them as both mounts and beasts of war.

The Stone Men of the Hidden Caverns were entirely wiped out. In a particularly cruel offensive, they decimated the underground city of Pu’zah by teleporting a ferocious, omnivorous swarm from the distant planet of Pestrahghol directly into their homes.

Their relentless conquests left devastation across the entire lunar surface. They brainwashed the Warrior Women of the Southern Tribes, compelling them into service as loyal bodyguards and the vanguard for future campaigns.

Their influence spread far and wide across all realms of the heavenly body. Unfortunately, they never missed the opportunity to make this fact known to their perceived lessers. The Moon was their playground.

Too bad that the AI itself is a bit of an unfeeling jackass though, treating Shiro's everyday life and relationships and inconsequential, and that the only thing that matters is the mission.
