my favourite Indian place used to have stock photos on the delivery app but they recently changed to genAI and yeah that's much better how did we live without this technology
Screenshot of two items in a delivery app menu with AI generated images. One is a "pickles tray" and the image shows the appropriate chutneys and pickles. The other is "pickles" and the image is just a huge plate of some weirdly discoloured sliced pickles, like discards from several picky eaters' burgers.

OK they're definitely killing Xbox (firing everyone who ran Xbox Game Studios) and moving pieces around the chess board to sell off Bethesda (now running Obsidian) and Activision (now running Rare and... uh, *who* is making Halo?) as discrete entities, right?
In a post to Xbox wire today, Matt Booty shared that the roles would be eliminated across “Halo Studios, other first-party studios, and the XGS management and central functions layer” and would be counted as a part of the previously laid-out restructuring of the company, which he claims is now three-quarters of the way complete.

Artwork depicting a young Primarch Fulgrim prior to the Horus Heresy in Warhammer 40,000. He is superhumanly tall—towering over a kneeling supplicant offering him a scroll—pale and beautiful. He is wearing a royal purple toga.Artwork depicting Fabius Bile, an apothecary of the heretical Emperor's Children Space Marine Legion, after falling to Chaos. Huh, could've sworn one of us had blocked the other, but I guess not: I managed to find the thread where she talks about asking ChatGPT for help making a video. She claims it's necessary for her to test out genAI tools like this to report on them, but her latest posts suggest she relies on them.
Korlis: Do you regularly ask it for help?

Lorenz: not really bc it just gives me shit like this

Korlis: Then I have to ask why you used it now? There are all sorts of ethical reasons to avoid it on top of it - as you've said - not being a useful tool

Lorenz: Well I'm a tech reporter and report on ChatGPT and I'm interested in AI products generally and how they work, so I do bop in and see if it works for things like this sometimes. There are ethical reasons not to use pretty much every platform I report on sadly, and they're very valid!Korlis: But you see the difference between researching a technology with journalistic intent and being a casual user, right? Or why "I asked ChatGPT..." out of context suggests an impromptu question not a formal test? If you had liked its suggested titles, would you have used them?

Lorenz: If it came up with something coherent yes I'd absolutely talk about it! I think anyone who follows me knows I report on ChatGPT and user behaviour, hence I beta test and investigate use cases of these different products. Again, it's my job. If it wasn't I wouldn't have to worry about any of it!I concede that reporting on something may mean taking unethical actions where its in the public interest for a product, tech, behaviour etc to be reported on. But ChatHPT/genAI products are a known quantity at this point. "Gives bad [video title] suggestions" isn't newsworthy or a compelling reason to use it.

Lorenz: Again, I am a tech reporter who reports on the user side of these platforms so I engage with them and beta test features in frankly very lightweight ways. I don't consider that unethical, I am a journalist and somehow seem to be the only tech journalist held to this standard

Is there any group more consistently disappointing than the humble gamer?
A two panel "Hello, human resources?!" meme contrasting gamer calls to boycott Sony over ending physical media with BDS calls to boycott Microsoft over actual complicity in genocide. Someone with zero media literacy has quote-tweeted the post with "#FuckSony", inadvertently reinforcing the point of the meme.

"Hello, Human Resources?!" Meme

'Know the work rules'
Appropriate: A dapper man points at a woman in a cubicle and says, "Pretend to boycott Sony over discs?". She responds "Awww, you're sweet."

Inappropriate: A caricatured nerd in a sweater vest asks the same woman, "Actually boycott Microsoft over genocide?", and she's on the phone to HR.

In Dune, the prohibition on AI leads to new schools of thought that push the boundaries of human intellect. In 40K, it means that the trillions of humans in the Imperium represent a surplus of grey matter that can be repurposed for biological computational power (once any free will is scooped out).
