Koreen Brennan @koreen.bsky.social · 31/07/2026I've come across this person's posts and found them to be often generalizing (all solar bad) and inflammatory. Good to have the background data. 030
Koreen Brennan @koreen.bsky.social · 05/07/2026I hear you! A drone photo of downtown LA shows vast parts of it in parking lots. It's a shame. Still a chance to redesign cities to be more walkable - some are doing this. 010
Koreen Brennan @koreen.bsky.social · 29/06/2026Another great idea of where to place solar panels. Using them to create shade is "stacking functions" - a key strategy in permaculture design. Where you place things can either be wasteful or highly efficient, especially if it can then perform more than one service. 0123

Koreen Brennan @koreen.bsky.social · 18/05/2026We also made some TLUDs, and created biochar from free wood chips from tree companies. An aquaintance had 20 TLUDs going at once and covered several acres with biochar without a lot of trouble. Fire is contained, takes 60-90 minutes for a burn, doesn't have to be so closely monitored. 000
Koreen Brennan @koreen.bsky.social · 18/05/2026Not sure, but like so many things, smallholders often end up working harder for less in order to adopt such things. We made our own biochar from fallen logs, charged and distributed it. Enjoyed community around the fire in the process, so wasn't a punishment exactly. 000

Koreen Brennan @koreen.bsky.social · 10/05/2026Systems thinking is a necessity if we want to use the energy we produce most efficiently and cost effectively. Why don't we do this already? It's a travesty, really. There is no excuse for the neglect of well-designed distributed energy networks. 030

Koreen Brennan @koreen.bsky.social · 21/04/2026A really excellent reason to transition to regenerative agriculture/agroecology. Much more resilient! It will take effort, creativity, and work but the outcomes are so much better than not doing it. Worth it on every level! All indicators point to backing away from fossil fuels. 194
Koreen Brennan @koreen.bsky.social · 21/04/2026This trend will only continue -renewable energy gets cheaper, fossil fuels gets more expensive. The technology continues to improve and there is a lot more upside potential to it. Combine with walkable neighborhoods/cities for maximum quality of life improvements. 052
Koreen Brennan @koreen.bsky.social · 21/04/2026While I haven't read the study, burning wood should not be considered a "renewable" energy, imo. The only way it should be burned is gasification/biochar production with biochar used to capture carbon long term. Even then, the design needs to be net benefit on multiple fronts, including ecosystems. 160
Koreen Brennan @koreen.bsky.social · 20/04/2026It's probably easier than drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico, or fracking in Pennsylvania without poisoning the water. I'm sure you understand that but a lot of people don't necessarily add that context. 100

Koreen Brennan @koreen.bsky.social · 19/04/2026Imagine your community owning its own source of electricity. There are various ways this works but the commonality is that it gives renters and people who can't install panels on their homes access to local renewable energy and cuts costs. 072
Koreen Brennan @koreen.bsky.social · 19/04/2026Have you ever driven around a city? There are thousands of balconies on apartment buildings and condos. Many more have them than do not, especially newer buildings. Codes address the risk. Germans care about such things too. This allows renters and apt dwellers to get solar access. 010
