the fact that nobody says "I'll build my own java compiler" but plenty of people think they can build their own o11y that scales to their needs is something worth studying because both are of equal levels of complexity

Do I get to claim hipster points for having seen this band play in a venue in Hengelo only slightly bigger than the stage they are on now. And if so, do I lose any points for that being almost exactly 30 years ago?! @wtofficial.bsky.social

Love this. So simple.
A frame of the Calvin and Hobbes comic, with Calvin telling Hobbes: “DEI INITIATIVES WERE NOT PUT IN PLACE TO ENSURE LOWER-QUALIFIED MINORITIES COULD GET HIRED INSTEAD OF MORE HIGHLY-QUALIFIED WHITE PEOPLE, IT WAS PUT IN PLACE TO ENSURE LOWER-QUALIFIED WHITE PEOPLE WERE NOT HIRED INSTEAD OF MORE HIGHLY-QUALIFIED MINORITIES.”

Looks at how hypocritical this is.. First she introduces 5 different ways the universe could end and now she trivializes people like myself who are doing our darnest to keep the Higgs Fields from changing and disintegrating the entire universe.. :D Oh, go read End of Everything, it is awesome :)

With observability 2.0, you can derive any metric across any number of dimensions. That, by itself, is profound—but it’s what that enables that makes a difference. @koogh.com shares how much of an impact observability 2.0 makes vs. your current way of working: www.honeycomb.io/blog/why-obs...

Why Observability 2.0 Is Such a Gamechanger
In this blog, Erwin articulates just how much of a difference Honeycomb/observability 2.0 makes compared to your current way of working.

I indeed wrote a thing.. One of the hardest things about my job is convincing people that Honeycomb isn't just a little bit better than traditional metrics and logs. It is almost like cheating..

You can always spot a scam call from Google because real Google will never give enough of a shit about a customer to call them in the first place.

I was just going to watch @kvlly.com's talk about "Influence without Authority - Making an impact in your organisation regardless of job title" and it turned into a not-so-live tweet thread with my thoughts. Loved the talk Kelly :) bsky.app/profile/koog...

I am only 3 minutes into this talk and I already love it. Leadership has nothing to do with your job title.. Reminded me of a talk a much younger me gave at a TEDx conference a decade ago, how gaming had prepared me for leadership without ever realising it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjGy...

Damn.. so many blog posts to write.. Currently working on the "Why Observability 2.0 is a game changer?". But also making an outline for one around how SLOs aren't a failure of a team, but a way to balance investment in reliability vs features. And one on how to start your O11Y journey as an org

Dammit @garius.bsky.social.. I am now both extremely excited about this book that you are writing way too slowly and I suddenly miss Terry Pratchett all over again :( These are exactly what made Discworld an amazing series of books was that it was satire on our current society in a fantasy world

For those of you who wanted a bit more from the book set in this universe.
“How did you know it was a Daimon?”

Chloe paused and gave Lex a pained look, then she returned to scraping the gore off her sword.

“You mean other than the fact that within two minutes of meeting you she was dragging you into an alley and trying to get into your pants?”

“She said I was cute and funny. That she felt an instant connection. I just thought…” Lex’s confidence, which had already taken a significant knock, was now hanging onto its existence by a very small thread.

Chloe sniggered.

“Well okay, not just that.” She swung her sword downward, suddenly. Then she picked something up and held it up so that Lex could see.

“Come on then lover-boy. What’s unusual about this hand?” She asked him.

Lex gasped. “What the hell?! She has… had… seven fingers. And an extra thumb that’s kind of merged with her palm.”

“Daimons are bad at doing human hands.” Chloe explained. “I think it’s because they don’t really understand what they’re copying. There’s no real conscious thought or understanding behind what they do. It’s just mindless mimicry.”

“How did I not spot the hands?!” Lex replied, annoyed at himself now.

“Because it had the right amount of tits.” Chloe said, then tossed the hand aside. It landed next to the rest of the Daimon’s corpse, which had begun dissolving as the last of the magic holding it together seeped away. “C’mon. Let’s go back inside. I won’t tell your minder about this, but you owe me a beer now. Or three.”

So it turns out you can change your Bluesky handle to your own domain? Not sure if that is better, but at least it is a lot shorter than the Bluesky one I had before.. I guess I am @koogh.com now? :)
