One of my blog posts was discussed on r/golang and some readers described opening my blog as getting flashbanged 💥 A good time to add color preference support.

Excellent point from @eltonminetto.dev in his closing keynote at GopherCon Latam. The tooling we build to help humans also gives agents what they need, a fast feedback loop. Compile, test, lint, benchmark, repeat. We should automate, step by step, the same process a human would follow.

Great talk from @alexrios.me on spin locks in Go at GopherCon Latam. They can outperform sync.Mutex, but only under a narrow set of conditions: a critical section under 100 ns, proven contention, multi-core deployment, and why Go generally favors safety, portability, and fairness over exposing them.

Oi, GopherCon Latam! I made it to Florianópolis 🇧🇷 Looking forward to giving my talk "When Go Style Stops Being Style", where I'll dissect Go conventions we've found to scale well in large repositories and why conventions still matter in the age of AI.

Excited to be heading to GopherCon Latam in Florianópolis, Brazil 🇧🇷 Looks like I'm willing to travel 6,600 miles to talk about Go, my furthest one so far. See you there 🌎

I don't always make open source contributions, but when I do, it feels like this.

Sitting at home in San Francisco, drinking coffee from a Stuttgart Gophers mug that was given to me at the @golab.io conference in Florence, Italy. I find this quite telling of how international the Go community is.
A Stuttgart Gophers coffee mug filled with coffee on a wooden desk by a window, with a cactus in the background.

Heads-up: I'm getting a 404

Ah yes, another classic Comcast outage in San Francisco.

My time at @golab.io came with heavy jet lag. But leave it to @goinggo.net to close out and make it feel like you had three espressos. An immersive talk on the Go trace tool provided a sharp intuition for balancing concurrency in light of the garbage collector with respect to CPU vs. memory.

The biggest surprise at @golab.io was a talk by Nate Smith. He explored Go as a medium for creative expression, sharing art made with code. It was moving, opening a world I hadn’t seen in years; a rare fusion of craft and art, perfectly fitting for a presentation in Italy.

Excellent breakdown of the new optimized sync.Mutex spin behavior implementation by Raiza Claudino at @golab.io. Loved the Go concurrency visualizations.

Excited to be giving my talk at @golab.io this year! It's a distilled set of lessons from maintaining a large Go codebase with hundreds of contributors. Over time, I've gone from dismissing my comments as nitpicky to realizing they're essential for writing maintainable and safe production Go code.

Asked my colleague if their GitHub "retro theme" was a Chrome extension. Turns out it's just high contrast mode. Retro is a good sell.

Leave it to San Francisco to reinvent the weather app, again. This one's actually good.
A handmade wooden weather display mounted on a post in front of a tree, featuring a small plank labeled 'Accu-Temp 2.0' with a movable pointer indicating temperatures ranging from freezing to heat waeave.

Ever since I got a foldable phone and the Android Linux Terminal app, I've been wondering: how far can you take it with an external keyboard? Especially while traveling. I gave it a shot and wrote up my setup. Check it out: konradreiche.com/blog/my-trav...

Which function is more idiomatic: clamp or restrict? Which one speaks fluent Go?
func clamp(value, lower, upper float64) float64 {
	return min(max(lower, value), upper)
}

func restrict(value, lower, upper float64) float64 {
	if value < lower {
		return lower
	}
	if value > upper {
		return upper
	}
	return value
}

Go Generics Hack: Ever struggled to juggle T and *T with Go's type parameters when an interface demands a pointer receiver? Check out my latest post, where I dissect a generic Protobuf reader that handles value and pointer type: konradreiche.com/blog/a-gener...
Go code snippet showcasing a generic Protobuf reader using type parameters. It defines an interface Proto[T] that ensures T is a proto.Message and a pointer type *T. The Read function then uses new(T) to create a pointer instance of T and assign it to var msg P, ensuring compatibility with proto.Unmarshal, which requires a pointer receiver.

I'm not the most active blogger, but my first post dates back to 2012. It was about using enum annotations to add metadata to constants in Java, and I still enjoy reading it! I started on Jekyll and moved to Hugo last year with an even more minimal design. I'm glad I've found time to write.

My favorite flight hack: this mini extension cord! It stays secure in seat power outlets. Because even sturdy chargers like Anker can lack the grounding prong for extra stability. No more mid-flight disconnects ✈️

This feels like social media network simulation #918. I hope we get lucky with this seed.
