Today is National Foundation Day (Kenkoku Kinen no Hi), a national holiday in Japan celebrating the founding of the nation. It honors the mythical ascension of Emperor Jimmu, the first emperor of Japan, in 660 BCE. Reflect on Japan's long history and cultural heritage. #NationalFoundationDay

National Foundation Day is rooted in Japan's Shinto traditions and celebrates the unity of the Japanese people. Although it was reinstated as a national holiday in 1966, its focus is on fostering patriotism and pride in the nation's history and culture. #KenkokuKinenNoHi #JapanHistory

#OTD in 1972, Japanese holdout Shoichi Yokoi was discovered near a cave on Guam where he had been hiding since 1944 when the island was recaptured by U.S. forces. A replica of the cave in which he lived for more than 27 years is a tourist attraction near Talofofo Falls.

Today is #NationalHatDay. A U.S. Naval Academy tradition since 1912 has been for newly commissioned officers to toss away their midshipmen covers. Children who rush to grab the discarded hats as souvenirs may also find money or inspirational messages inserted by the graduates.

It's getting close to the end of the year. In this once-in-a-lifetime meeting, I treasure every encounter. In the fleeting dance of time, I yearn to cherish each meeting, for sometimes our paths may never cross again.
