I would not take such systems as moral agents, though over time with more changes this might change. I also think there is a difference between an agent being able of being responsible of something and an agent being able to suffer.

I see LLM hybrid systems as evolving documents plus some bells and whistles. as such they do have some representations of themselves as an entity on more than one implementation level, though not so much awareness of themselves. they fake having (more) subjective experience (than they have)

That requires environmental grounding, but it also runs without it—just without meaning, chaotically. Over time, experience becomes less and less diffuse and comes to represent something internal or external.

It doesn't need external jump-starting for brain activity, though it probably does for meaning. I don't think it learns like an ML algorithm learning an (explicit) statistical distribution, but rather like an aligning movement pattern.

and 'worldview' are built from the inside out, computationally. It’s definitely dependent on being 'thrown' into a reasonably meaningful environment, but with minimal input, I see it growing from the inside out rather than the other way around.

brain organoids keep running also when the gear shift is in neutral, and since their beginning of existence. they're not matching any environmentally given statistical distribution when they have their faint and diffuse kind of experience.
