Drummer Barrett Martin is best-known for his years with grunge-era rock bands like Screaming Trees, but jazz has also been a major part of his musical life. Martin first fell in love with #jazz in front of his family's player piano, which churned out ragtime, big band, and show tunes.

Three wildfires continue to burn out of control in and around Spokane. The largest blaze is the Old Trails Fire. It crossed the Spokane River this weekend and is responsible for burning about 700 homes and structures.

Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes has resigned. In a statement, Barnes said “I hope this transition gives the city and this department the opportunity to return full focus to what matters most, addressing youth gun violence and preventing more tragedies.”

People gathered at the International Fountain Wednesday for a silent vigil honoring the victims of the Seattle Center shooting. Seattle Center organized the event and attendees left notes and flowers. Even though it was only a few days after three people were killed, the park felt peaceful.

Seattle's sixth and final World Cup match brought a daily record of 309,000 boardings on Sound Transit. That's when the U.S. played Belgium at Lumen Field. 🚋 Monday's number topped the previous mark of 297,000 riders on June 19, when the U.S. played Australia.

A grand World Cup finale for Seattle, but a disappointing outcome for U.S. soccer after losing to Belgium 4-1. Fans said they were sad to see the U.S. loose, but glad that Seattle came alive during three weeks of soccer.

During its first summer, Seattle's new Waterfront Park drew 2.4 million unique visitors. According to foot traffic data, just over 60% of visitors were from the state of Washington. About a quarter live in the city of Seattle. Did you visit the new waterfront park in its inaugural year?
