Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Great character building, low stakes mysteries (hehe) that ultimately don't change lives, and a conclusion that shows it was all really just one night at work. I was interested the whole time and really enjoyed the ride. 💙📚 010
Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 02/10/2026And that's really the beauty of this writing. No one is demonized or made into a villain. It's all realistic people, living in the restrictions of their own worlds, coming into conflict within this shared iconic environment. Even without working as a server, I get it. 110
Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Same vibes as "Help Wanted" by Adelle Waldman, if you're interested in the tribulations and dramas of minimum wage work. I've never worked on a restaurant before, but I appreciate how accessible Kauffman made the experience. Sounds draining. 100

Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 02/10/2026No? Revisionist history is a real & valid label of study. It just means that the narrative is shifting due to new information or changing social attitudes give us new insight. The author here is not a historiographer who knows to use the term correctly, but "revisionist" isn't an insult. 110

Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Watergate was 54 years ago and new sealed files were just shared in February. So I get the knee jerk reaction, but again - this ain't the part thats the issue. 010
Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I mean, revisionist history is real & legitimate. Its an incredibly common process that happens when there's a discovery of new info or when social trends let us reinterpret motivations. I genuinely doubt that the author here actually understands historiography, but "revisionist" isn't the issue. 210
Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 30/09/2026My school announced a couple new wellness initiatives this year, including a weekly knitting/crochet circle for teaching staff. I was so pumped up to go! But no one else showed up for it today. 🧶💔 281

Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 24/09/2026It'll be a busy week, so I'm choosing a lighter novel for the moment. This feels like a good time for "The Kaiju Preservation Society" by John Scalzi 💙📚 040
Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Ultimately, this is a well written book. I was engaged through most of it. There's plot and ending itself are pretty wonderful, with Burke doing a great job of revealing her hand little by little. I've just got some issues with the progression. 💙📚 010
Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Having Shannon ultimately trigger the downfall really undoes all that effort. She should have been a red herring. Someone that Natalie points at while we see her take all the action herself. Having that duality would have made the ending even more logical, satisfying and worthwhile. 100
Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Shannon is presented as Natalie's antagonist and as the outsider who exposed all of the family secrets. But...why? Nat is awful enough. The book does a great job showing all her slip ups and poor choices, all the ridiculous and ignored cracks beneath the surface. The background work is there. 100
Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Because that's why we read these books - to witness the fall of the villain. And Natalie was the cause of so much of her own misfortune. So why not go all the way? Why not have her as the primary reason for why her life fell apart? 100
Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I'm absolutely down for an unlikeable and unreliable protagonist, and this really brought the discomfort! Natalie is an amazingly hateable main character, and she was written perfectly. My main issue is how her downfall came about. 100

Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 18/09/2026This novel managed to keep building tension as you got closer and closer to the ending. I imagined a dozen different directions that the story could have gone instead, but this conclusion was still pretty darn satisfying and natural. 000
Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I didn't get too attached to Maren as a main character, but her thoughts, feelings and growth felt so real. Especially when placed against Ursa, reading her POV successfully made me feel just as claustrophobic and paranoid as Maren. 100
Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 18/09/2026A beautiful exploration of the lengths women will go to when forced to rely only on themselves for survival, and the ways that they are punished for existing beyond social expectations. Its lovely, and sad, and very human. 100

Knerd @knerdian.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I appreciate the ending that Hochhauser gave here. It would have been easy to continue painting Elin as a self-righteous self-victimizing sap, but she didn't go that way. She somehow managed to build relationships and scrabble a happier ending for everyone, even if it wasn't their original plan. 000
