I had the realization recently that these guys heard the offer in Matthew 4:8-9 and said yes
Matthew 4:8-9

9Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

All I can think of while walking around in here is "I like to think of myself as a moral stoplight" and a crowd of travelers spontaneously waltzing in the main concourse.

John Steuart Curry's portrait of John Brown. He fills the canvas from the waist up, and his outstretched arms cannot be contained within the painting. His hair and beard are blowing wildly, and his face is filled with an apocalyptic zeal, as fierce as the tornado touching down over his shoulder on the left side of the painting.

I've just been reminded that when we visited the Valley of the Kings I begged my dad to buy me a soapstone (most likely) replica of this guy from a vendor there. I have no idea what became of it.

View from a coffeeshop in Chinatown. Over the edge of a windowpane, a man wearing a jacket and backpack bustles away. Facing the other way, a woman in a flannel shirt leans slightly over the top of a stroller. Opposite is an old brick building, painted tan, with a fire escape winding up the face above the main door.

They might as well say it's "degenerate"
The State Department wants to sell a painting by the celebrated artist Kehinde Wiley that the director of its Art in Embassies program called “very woke” and “aesthetically terrifying.” It was removed from the U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic last week.

The painting by Wiley, who rose to fame after being selected to create President Barack Obama’s official portrait, features four Dominican models against a floral backdrop. It was commissioned by the federal government in 2013 and paid for with taxpayer dollars.

State Department officials removed the painting from the embassy last week, after first hiding it behind a tarp designed with an image of the American flag.

Erin Scavino, the director of Art in Embassies, criticized Wiley’s painting in a recent podcast interview and pointed out the artist’s connection to Obama. Leah Campos, the U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic, celebrated its removal on social media with a video playing the rock anthem “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” writing that the painting was an example of “globalist and woke ideologies.”

Footnote 3: “Woke Bees Are Coming for Your Children. Courageous Influencers Are Sounding the Alarm,” ran the headline of a recent op-ed by Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL).
“My question for Amanda Stern, your so-called ‘bee expert,’” said the internationally bestselling fantasy novelist A.J. Howling, who tweets frequently about the bees and who has devoted part of her large fortune to funding lawsuits against them, “is this: If the bees are really a nonissue, then why, in the past six months, has The New York Times devoted more column inches to them than to data center construction? Why does everyone Ezra Klein interviews believe the bee is a bigger story than genocides taking place around the globe? Good heavens, I sometimes think that the Sifting Cap from my novel Roderick Plumb and the Flagon of Significance must have sifted too many people into Moron house.”

Like, that’s literally not even how our human science works! Or look at Polymarket. People are betting the bees are going to wipe out human culture in six months or less. We gotta stop these fuckin’ bees. I’m all about love, bro.”

"I leave Wile E. Coyote at the foot of the mountain! One always finds one's burden again. But Wile E. Coyote teaches the higher fidelity that negates the gods and raises rocks. He too concludes that all is well. This universe henceforth without a master seems to him neither sterile nor futile. Each atom of that stone, each mineral flake of that night filled mountain, in itself forms a world. The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine Wile E. Coyote happy."
