Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 15/08/2026So discovered that Arena 3000 at least on the BBC supported twin stick for single player. One for movement, the other for fire direction. game is on Elk and supports joystick. Probably 2 but I didn't check it yet. 000
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 02/07/2026I think I've (finally) finished my logic gate CPU... but have some improvement/stability ideas.... sigh... 010
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 02/07/2026So on my logic gate CPU. I was constrained to 16 instructions so CMP and LDI bit the dust alas. I've discovered I might be able to combine 2 other instructions though and maybe bring back one of these two. 000
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 01/07/2026Yay! Have just successfully run this on my simulated logic gate CPU on my phone, at a whopping 1Hz! Machine code on left, address middle, then assembly code, then comments. 030
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 29/06/2026Finished adding bank switching at the weekend so instructions 10 and 11, UBN and UMA should in theory now actually do something. Still needs proper testing though, although preliminary checks by manually setting/clearing corresponding registers looked encouraging. 010
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 29/06/2026Happily... the project is BACK ON! ^_^Y But here is the question... were there ever any "true" 2 player joystick games on the #AcornElectron? I remember er... Dogfight on the BBC Micro was fun for 2 players... is there an Elk version? any other games? Any that utilised analogue? 131
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 29/06/2026It was great wasn't it! I went too. Loved it, although found the first ep somewhat high octane. Found the 2nd one much easier to follow along with 110
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 29/05/2026A bit work in progress but I've been gradually building/simulating a Ben Eater CPU (from logic gates) on my phone for a while and finally got to the bit where I get to decide on the instruction set. It's still subject to change but was fun coming up with it. Hoping I won't miss a LDV instruction! 140
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 29/05/2026compared to the JMP and jump sub's but then realised one could just branch to a jump if one really wanted to go far! Doh! 020
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 29/05/2026Funnily enough I was thinking about this earlier reading the AEUG ROM section that needs a 3 byte jump instruction to the service routine. I was reading the 6502 instruction set the other day, looking for inspiration and the reality of the shorter jumps hit home. I was thinking, arrgh can't go far! 320
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 14/05/2026I just tried it on Electroniq! Love it! Man I used to love Raptor in the nineties and this very much has that vibe! Nice speed too! 010
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 14/05/2026Can I ask a daft question? Why bne with a comment that it will always jump? isn't there an always jump command? Is it some sort of optimisation to use bne? 120
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 14/05/2026I ah... may have to break out the old single 15-pin port, dual analogue joystick adaptor project... 210
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 14/05/2026Wasn't that someone's childhood disappointment that it wasn't real? Or is someone making magic happen? 120
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 14/05/2026interesting... saw someone talk about that on the tube of you but given it was a "self stylised goblin: flip between cute drawings of same character with different expressions during the video style presenter" (if you know the type I mean) I kinda figured it was a joke! 010
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 07/10/2025damn... maybe I'm getting you confused with someone else who was posting about it (entirely possible) 010
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 09/09/2025@jeriellsworth.bsky.social back on twitter... were you a while ago talking about having fun with a graphics/pattern generating algorithm called something breakdown? might be misremembering the name - thanks if you can remember? 120
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 03/08/2025these are nice... weirdly remind me of er... Orco? (from Heman) 000
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 05/07/2025Think I had something like this going on with Arcadians with digital stick on SD128 and player 2 010
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 18/06/2025and turned out I was exactly in the middle of reading about the BRK vector so timing couldn't be better! Thanks, very interesting so far. 010
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 18/06/2025Good to see your stuff again. Twitter wasn't as good without you 000
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 17/06/2025AHH gotcha. So it is meant to be middle of the equals for the colour change but on the other emulators it is a character or something off. Very clever. Didn't know it was possible to switch mid scanline 010
Knelf @knelf.bsky.social · 17/06/2025Thanks will try and read that. Actually super timely for me as been looking at user vector etc recently 010
