“The hardest hit are going to be some of the poorest countries on the planet, who had begun to build an industrial manufacturing base via exporting to the US through preferential trade access.

Over 80% of the Lesotho clothing production goes to the US. The clothing sector, with over 35,000 workers, is the biggest manufacturing employer in the country. With an overnight tariff 
jump to 50%, Lesotho’s clothing 
industry is effectively dead.”
