Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 07/03/2026Can someone get me the 3D print file and the exact filament colours I need? 😁 041
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 09/02/2026Every day using this product brings a new level of hell 010
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 02/02/2026I love Claude Code and Opus is incredible, but man they really should stop bragging about it being vibe coded - it's a damning indictment of vibe coding. By far the most glitchy AI software I have used. 450
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 31/01/2026A bunch of my apps like Bluesky and WhatsApp have reverted to the old iOS keyboard. Am I imagining things? 010
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 01/12/20254.5 Opus! The tone options are generally not effective in my experience. 010
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 01/12/2025Stopped using ChatGPT because the tone of voice was so off putting, it sounds like a millennial pretending to be Gen Alpha. “I’ll explain it to you. No bloat, no drama, just vibes” making sand think was a mistake 110
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 01/12/2025Is it more about making sure that people can start using the product immediately so that they convince themselves it's good rather than you trying to convince them via a landing page? Or some other reason? 130
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 01/12/2025Sure I'll send it over, I can't DM you for some reason though 000
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 01/12/2025Use OKLCH. If useful I can DM an early draft of a tool we are working on! 100
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 30/11/2025The new Daybridge sync engine is over 300,000 lines of code across the two repositories we’re working on 080
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 21/11/2025Has the EU looked at this? Seems analogous to AWS/GCP lock in that they have been legislating against 000
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 16/11/2025It writes code faster than I would, suggests solutions I might not have thought of, and catches my bugs. In my case I don’t use Claude Code very much but I do use Cursor autocomplete/copilot style tools to speed me up. 110
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 16/11/2025I think it’s perfectly possible to use generative AI *and* to fully read and understand its output. Sometimes it suggests solutions I wouldn’t have thought about myself. It also writes boilerplate much faster than I would doing it manually freeing up time to focus on more impactful things. 250
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 14/11/2025Alternatively I might just migrate to use Next in static mode instead of Vite 100
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 14/11/2025Ah I see! I’m considering adopting it now because by the time our next version ships this might be ready 😅 100
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 14/11/2025Makes sense! Even if useExtracted just consumed the existing files in Vite rather than generating/watching - that would probably be enough for us! 100
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 14/11/2025Thanks I didn’t read thoroughly enough, this is awesome! Niche question: we use Next for our web app but Vite for our desktop app and share code between them. Will useExtracted work nicely if we call it in common code shared between the two frameworks? 110
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 07/11/2025Amazing! I wonder if it’s possible to a) add string descriptions/context inline to enable better AI translation or b) even integrate directly with LLMs somehow to translate strings in real time as you create them. 100
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 02/11/2025I would suggest swapping the backgrounds of the sidebar and content. The convention on Mac is usually for the sidebar to be grey and to keep the content bg white for a paper like feel. For fonts, if you want the app to feel native SF Pro is the way to go. There are more playful variants of it! 110
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 01/11/2025This happens to mine all the time but turning it off and on again fixes it for me 000
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 26/10/2025About to find out what happens when your vacuum cleaner company also grows your food 👀 030
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 21/10/2025I'm trying to understand why the profiler says a component is re-rendering because 'the parent component rendered' when the parent definitely didn't render? It's wrapped in React.memo and none of the props are changing (or I presume it would say so?) Paging @ricky.fm @danabra.mov 🙏 120
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 21/10/2025We moved all of our stuff off of Vercel and when they emailed me to ask why, I told them straight. We won’t do business with red pilled CEOs. 170
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 02/10/2025I love living in London, I’ve been here for nearly 10 years. It might be the best city in the world. The far right hate it because it’s living proof that multiculturalism works and that different cultures can coexist and thrive. Trump and DHH hate it because it disproves their narratives. 1110
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 18/09/2025🫡 to all the furries running the internet’s infrastructure 071
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 15/09/2025Some parts of iOS 26 are nice and some parts are driving me 🥜 140
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 09/09/2025The Apple event was a great day for the brits. They wheel us out when they want to make the product announcements sound profound. 080
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 04/09/2025I mean, our brains do the same thing only with a biological substrate instead of a silicon substrate. LLMs are “probability machines” but their output is based on a real, acquired understanding of the world from a training data set. Different to humans but still arguably thinking. 010
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 28/08/2025Cantab is the postnominal people from University of Cambridge (UK) can put after their name eg “MSc Hons (Cantab)”. Many universities have them. Oxford is Oxon, mine is Ebor (York). It’s the Latin name of the city. 3160
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 08/08/2025In the UK we should do anti-honours. And the first person to get an anti-Knighthood should be whoever removed all of the fucking padding from the seats on the trains and replaced them with ironing boards. 060
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 05/08/2025Biggest red flag for AI generated text is excessive use of present participles 🚩 "highlighting the importance of", "underscoring the relevance of", "avoiding the risks of", "emphasising the need for" etc 000
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 05/08/2025Really like this actually. Currently the selected tab in liquid glass looks atrocious - this would be a better approach. 010
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 29/07/2025I’ve never looked into it properly - some of our work pre dates the compiler. Does it work in dev mode with hot reloading etc? It’s probably not the best code but our dependency arrays are not always equal to everything used in the function so I assumed the compiler wouldn’t be able to handle that 110
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 29/07/2025I think if you’re building a simple app it’s overkill. If like us you’re building a calendar and need buttery smooth mouse interaction performance, a single missing useCallback can cause the whole app to rerender on every mouse move and make it feel atrocious. Just depends on the context really. 230

Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 21/07/2025They will have to do age verification as well, the deadline is in a few days though I think 010
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 10/07/2025I enjoyed Careless People! Very relevant for everyone in tech. 030
Kieran McHugh @kmc.bsky.social · 07/07/2025Hi Nic, so sorry about this. We’re doing a migration right now and it’s taken longer than we expected. If you need access urgently send me a message and I can help 🙏 120
