I am so glad someone with a large following is saying this. I'm tired of reading things like "POC artists" I've similar feelings around writing "AMAB people" instead of "people AMAB," or shortening "androgynous" to "andro"… But being a stickler about meanings of words annoys people so I say nothing

My situations don't seem as severe, but I have also lived the "growing up ignoring health problems and never learned to go to the doctor" life, and only now am forcing myself to try to get help for things I've needed forever ago (and still hesitating over them)

Thinking of every step to reach a single product is kinda crazy. I've manually made pants. Patterning, cutting, sewing. So many loving hours were poured into that. But I didn't make the fabric. I didn't make the tools. People (likely underpaid) whom I will never see made those before I got started.

Once again, not targeting anyone in particular. I follow multiple people who make (or plan to make) physical merchandise of all kinds of things, and it's awesome seeing what people come up with. Thank you for creating. I wish there was a solution to satisfy all issues, but I don't think there is...

I don't really have a conclusion to this. Just wanted to say something about it. At least I know I generally suck at designing things consistently well, so I don't imagine my art being demanded to be taking up space in the physical world anytime soon

I can only look up what shipping companies might use, and just that hope their claims of natural gas vehicles is true (and even then, anything I would want to even "look up" in regards to that or anything is now automatically using Al and polluting the world for web searches)

Even a humble drawing I could make for someone, on untreated paper with plant-based inks and whatnot, still needs to get sent out to the buyer. Shipping requires travel, likely on multiple vehicles, none of which I have any control over what is used to power them.

But yeah I've constantly felt at ends with the idea of myself making/selling physical things because of the environmental impact I can't help but think about all the water required to make shirts, fabrics that aren't biodegradable, fast fashion, all the discarded clothing in landfills and freeways

I've had thoughts related to what I last reposted. First and foremost, not trying to rag on anyone trying to make a living through merchandise, as living under capitalism is rough and complicated. Not upset with anyone excited about plastic charms and stuff either, I find those appealing myself.
